PlayStation has released a bunch of free Resident Evil avatars to celebrate the series 30th anniversary, although actually getting them is a surprising amount of work.
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of one of the greatest horror franchises of all time – Resident Evil. As if releasing the one of the greatest horror franchises of all time – Resident Evil wasn’t a big enough way to celebrate that milestone, Capcom has been going all in with special art, collaborations, and more to mark the occasion.
It’s not just Capcom who have been celebrating Resident Evil’s anniversary, either, as several other companies have also shared some love for the series as it hits the big three oh. PlayStation is the latest example of this, as it’s just released a bunch of free Resident Evil avatars for everyone to claim, if they can be bothered with all the extra steps.
If You Want PlayStation’s Free Resident Evil Avatars, You’ll Have To Work For It
What Do You Mean I Have To Download An App?!
Over on Twitter, PlayStation announced that it’s giving away 10 Resident Evil avatars to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary. The collection includes two avatars for Leon, Chris, Ada, Jill, and Claire, with one being based on the 30th anniversary art, and the others strangely being taken from the CGI movies.
Real talk, the movie avatars look pretty bad. At least the 30th anniversary ones are snazzy.
So how do you get these avatars, I hear you ask? With most giveaways, it’s as simple as logging in with your PlayStation account and claiming them, but there are some bizarre extra steps to this one that make it a bit more annoying. To start off with, you’ll have to purchase or wishlist Resident Evil Requiem on the PlayStation Store.
From there, download the Sony Pictures Core app (which is apparently a thing) on your PS5 or PS4, before signing up on the campaign website to receive a voucher you’ll need to redeem for the avatars. Free is still free, but I’ve not seen an avatar giveaway campaign with quite as many steps as this one.
