I’ve been covering this PS Plus offer included in Days of Play for a few years now, and as far as I can tell, Sony started restricting current members from 2024 onwards. Looking through my back catalogue, the promotion was open to “new members, existing members, and upgrades” in 2023. The wording in the years since shifted to what we have today: new subscribers and anyone who wants to upgrade.
Of course, this follows on from a recent price increase across all three of the PS Plus tiers, which, while minor, were noteworthy. The 12-month commitment wasn’t impacted in most countries (it reportedly was in Australia), but it’s still an example of the service going up in price.
Here are those recent PS Plus tier price increases in full:
| Subscription Length | PS Plus Essential | PS Plus Extra | PS Plus Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-Month Subscription |

| 3-Month Subscription |

If you’re part of the PS Plus Premium tier, the most expensive one (and thus the one giving Sony the most money), then it’s you who gets shafted the most. You can’t upgrade to a higher tier, so there’s absolutely no way of getting a discount of any kind — any PS Plus Essential and PS Plus Extra members do at least have that option.
How do you feel about this PS Plus tactic from Sony, which it’s been doing for a few years now? Post all your thoughts in the comments below.
