'Looks Like We Got Sucker Punched': Ghost of Yotei Fans Gutted Support Has Ended for Free Co-Op Mode 1

Sucker Punch will not add any more content to its free Ghost of Yotei update, Legends – and not everyone is taking the news well.

The mode, which we described as “fantastic” in our initial hands on, launched on 10th March.

Now just two months later, the Seattle studio has revealed it won’t be adding any more content to the co-op campaign – although it will remain online and playable in its entirety if you want to jump in.

Speaking with the PS Blog, Lead Designer Darren Bridges revealed:

“The Raid update was our last major planned update for Legends. It finishes the story of the Yotei Six in that mode. We’ve loved to see players playing it, continue to play it and enjoy it. It’s been great.”

As alluded to in the article’s headline, not everyone is impressed with Sucker Punch’s decision here.

One user wrote: “This is really disappointing. We waited so long for new Legends and after a short time, it becomes repetitive. Really poor move to not add more survival maps or 120 gear.”

Another added: “I’m not buying the game, then. How the heck do you end support after only two months? Unbelievable.”

We’re a bit torn on this: obviously we can 100% understand the disappointment from fans who were hoping to have new content to look forward to, but also it is a free supplementary mode to a pretty meaty single player campaign.

We doubt Sucker Punch ever intended to support this for a long time, and while that’s unusual in this era of live service, there’s something to be said for a multiplayer game that you play and enjoy for a little bit before moving on.

The Seattle studio will obviously be getting ready to start work on its next big project now, and like we mentioned earlier, Legends is going nowhere – you’ll still be able to enjoy it as it is for as long as you like.

This idea that games need to be updated with new content for eternity is a new one, but not even Ghost of Yotei can escape those expectations, it seems.
