Bloodborne R-Rated Animated Movie Announced At CinemaCon

A Bloodborne animated movie has been announced by Sony at CinemaCon 2026. The adaptation follows the recently announced Helldivers movie as the next PlayStation IP to come to the big screen. It will be co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and Seán McLoughlin, also known as JackSepticEye.

While no other details about the movie have been revealed, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president, said that it will be “very true” to the gory and violent depiction of the game, meaning it will possibly be R-rated. We don’t have any word on a potential release window or when production will begin.

We’re Now Getting Three FromSoftware Adaptations

This marks the third adaptation of a FromSoftware game. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is getting a stylish anime, while Elden Ring is getting a live-action movie. Recent leaks from the Elden Ring set have revealed that it will be set post the Shattering, meaning we’ll see The Lands Between in the same state as it was in the game.

Bloodborne’s Victorian-era setting and Lovecraftian horror vibe will arguably suit an animated adaptation better than a live-action one. Considering the moon itself is a boss you can fight (spoilers, I guess), adapting the beloved game into live-action, especially with the R-rated stamp, may not work out too well.

Bloodborne Fans, It Might Be Time To Move On

There’s no evidence that anything is happening with Bloodborne, and as we approach its tenth anniversary, maybe it’s time to throw in the towel.

It looks like everyone and their grandma wants to adapt a video game IP, as a new one is announced almost every week. Considering how well Amazon’s Fallout TV series has performed, and Netflix’s Castlevania before that, video games have become a gold mine for movie and TV producers.

As for the game itself, Bloodborne remains high on the list of remasters, remakes, or sequels that fans have been praying for. Recently, we learned that FromSoftware reportedly turned down the offer of a Bloodborne remake by Bluepoint Games, before the studio shut down. Bluepoint specialized in remakes and remasters, and would have been the ideal choice to bring the game back. Unfortunately, its closure is just another nail in the coffin of a possible remake.
