Get ready to feel ancient: the Soldier 76 cinematic is almost ten years old. In that cinematic, we were introduced to a very broody, but nonetheless heroic, Jack Morrison. The short also featured the character Alejandra, and from then on, she became the centre of multiple theories about new heroes.
The major one came when Sombra was revealed. Many were convinced that Sombra and Alejandra were one and the same, but that never came to pass. Still, many waited for her to be added to the roster as the years went by, and now, some fans think that she’s on the cusp of joining the fight – and has actually been revealed already.
Overwatch Fans Are Once Again Theorising That A New Hero Is Actually Alejandra
A post outlining the theory that Hero 51, who was revealed yesterday, is actually Alejandra, is getting a lot of attention in r/Overwatch. And in fairness, the resemblance is there, more so than it was with the Sombra theory.
“I am CONVINCED she was inspired by Zarya to help fight against injustice in the world,” says Reddit user Arsenic-Morty. “She’s seen Soldier: 76 fight back against Los Muertos, too. It’s not too far-fetched for her to be a prime candidate for the next generation of heroes. I think this is a fun opportunity for Blizzard to make a callback to their earlier lore while showing a proper timeline progression.”
Some are on board with the theory, but others are worried the timeline wouldn’t quite match up. For instance, only a year or so has passed since her initial appearance, so she would have grown up real fast. With that said, Overwatch’s timeline is all over the place and prone to errors, so that doesn’t necessarily rule this out.
A theory with a little more substance to it is that Hero 51 is a member of Helix Security International, as you can seemingly make out the logo on her uniform. This would make her the second playable member of HSI, after Pharah.
Right now, we don’t even know what class she will be. I got damage vibes after the concept art was shown off, but others are saying support. We’ll find out for sure next week, with her full reveal.
