When it was revealed that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced would sport brand new story content in the form of both character-driven outings and an expanded main plot, questions were raised amongst fans.
There have been some slight concerns over the remake’s reworked pacing, for example, but Matt Ryan, the actor behind protagonist Edward Kenway, is convinced that the new stuff is well worth having.
To be clear, Ryan was brought back to voice Kenway in these fresh scenes, and it sounds like he was truly excited to return.
“It was a strange and wonderful and nostalgic and beautiful experience, man. It’s like an old friend,” he told Game Informer.
“It was kind of easy to slip into. My voice has changed slightly; it is slightly lower now, but I trained as an actor for this. But yeah, what a joy to come back and after all this, all this time, doing new scenes,” Ryan adds.
He then heaps praise on the new scenes, commenting: “[These] new scenes just jumped off the page, and they really add to the character – they add depth to the character and the story. They’re not just there for the sake of filling it out.”
Ryan’s always come across as a genuine fan of Edward as a character, and so I’m certainly inclined to believe that he’s being straight with us here.
He continues: “I think that all the people who’ve been on that journey with him before, I’m excited for them to go on it again, and for them to feel the depth that has been brought to the character through the new stuff that we’ve done.”
