It’s about that time. No, not the April 1, 2026, release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. That’s still a little over a week away. It’s time to scope out the film’s international age ratings, because sometimes they tell us more than meets the eye.
The British Board of Film Classification has officially pegged Mario’s second big-screen outing (well, third, but y’know) as “PG,” which is precisely where Illumination’s 2023 predecessor clocked in. Thing about the ol’ BBFC, is that they’ll often go into detail. They’ll do so in vague terms, seldom if ever citing actual characters. But with excitement hitting fever pitch for Rosalina’s Hollywood debut, fans are wide-eyed toward a couple of these ratings-sourced tidbits.
Laser Blasters And Displaced Sisters
“Mild violence and threat.” That’s where the BBFC’s slammed the gavel. Fairly typical stuff, then. But as the above Twitter user noted (and sites like Go Nintendo have also caught wind of), some key things stand out here. First, there’s this. Under the “violence” category, which is a two-out-of-five on the parental awareness scale:
“Fight scenes involve kicks, punches, laser gunfire and use of fantastical weapons. Violence is occasionally intense but often includes comic moments. A brief verbal reference is made to decapitation.”
It’s the “laser gunfire” that’s sticking out to people. This is hardly the first time fans have reckoned that Star Fox’s existence within Mario’s blossoming cinematic universe has been suggested; and there’s no hard and fast rule that says only an iconic anthropomorphic fox and friends can fire laser blasters. It’s just that, at this point, it all adds up. And then there’s this sad spot under “themes” (a one-out-of-five, if you’re curious):
“Infrequent very mild upsetting scenes include flashbacks to the separation of a girl and her younger sister.”
Some are going wild, saying this is evidence that Peach and Rosalina were separated at an early age, and that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will establish that they’re long-lost siblings. Hey. Maybe! Others are thinking it’s a reference to Mari and Lu, twin Lumas introduced in last year’s Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 remaster. It would give more rationale behind the new inclusion of Rosalina’s storybook in these versions.
Personally, I’m guessing it’s the latter. But folks won’t have to wait long to find out. Whatever the case may be, I just want the movie to be decent!

Someone Is Adding Trophy Support To The PSP
The PSP was already an amazing handheld. The addition of Trophies makes it that much better.
