If you ask us, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is in the argument for FromSoftware’s finest work, and its upcoming anime adaptation looks great too.
It’s now been announced that the anime, named Sekiro: No Defeat, will make its debut in Japan, where it’ll be available to watch over a three-week theatrical release.
This kicks off from 4th September 2026. Unfortunately, there’s yet to be any announcement on a release date in other territories, though we do know it’ll be streaming exclusively via Crunchyroll for global audiences.
The key visual for the anime has been released:
Sekiro: No Defeat essentially tells much the same story as the game itself, albeit with more of an emphasis on characters and the world.
Here’s the official synopsis to give you an idea of what to expect:
Japan is fractured into many independent nations entangled in ceaseless war. At the center lies Ashina, a land of sacred earth and ancient mystery. Two decades after Sword Saint Isshin Ashina reclaimed the region in a brutal coup, a new threat emerges from within: The Interior Ministry. Desperate to protect his homeland, Isshin’s grandson Genichiro turns to forbidden powers. The only hope lies in a kidnapped boy — the Divine Heir — and his silent protector: a loyal shinobi known only as Sekiro.
This is the story of a lord and his retainer — and their quest to restore balance to a nation on the edge.
A trailer also arrived not too long ago, and it looks stunning — we’re big fans of the style implemented here.
We expect the Crunchyroll release date won’t be too far removed from the Japanese theatre run, but hopefully official confirmation comes along soon.
