Street Fighter Set Kept Cody Rhodes And Roman Reigns Apart, WWE Champ Reveals

For some time now, the cast of the upcoming Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat live-action movies have been taking shots at each other, either on stage at The Game Awards, or in interviews ahead of the movies’ scheduled release dates. It’s the exact kind of real-life beef that has made the lead-up to both movies a tad bit more interesting.

It turns out, however, that the beef isn’t just limited to those on opposing movie sets. Nope. Because, at least by WWE Champion Cody Rhodes’ word, him and Roman Reigns have some real issues, too. Issues that seemingly prevented Guile (Rhodes) and Akuma (Reigns) from interacting with each other on set.

In a recent appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s in-depth interview show, Rhodes revealed that things are a bit icy between him and Reigns, long after the duo settled their television issues at WrestleMania in a wrestling ring.

WWE 2K26 is delightfully violent in the most video game way possible.

“I think they thought we were going to fight or have issues for real because they were very cognizant on the radios of us [and saying], ‘Stepping out with Guile, Akuma will be coming on,'” Rhodes said (thanks IGN for the transcript). “They were very cognizant that we would not cross paths. And we did, because I had to tell him the direction of one of the trailers, and that was our only moment, and it was very awkward.”

This Could All End Up Being An Elaborate Ruse

It’s unclear if there’s any one moment that would’ve led either superstar to continue to have issues with each other. The two did headline back-to-back WrestleMania main events against each other, and in the lead-up to those events, in storyline, took shots at each other’s abilities, families and skill set.

“That’s a crazy relationship,” Rhodes said. “I have nothing but admiration for what he’s done and accomplished, but I don’t know what it is. I don’t even like talking about it because I don’t know what it is. It’s just a very strange relationship.”

The filming of Street Fighter took place long after their in-ring feud concluded, so it’s not like they had to be separated in order to keep kayfabe, or the in-ring magic alive in case onlooking cameras were nearby.

There’s also a really good chance that this is all just made up conjecture on the part of Rhodes. Wrestlers are almost always in character, and as honest as the interviews have been on Van Vliet’s show, Rhodes could simply be embellishing some things to make it seem like the two aren’t on good terms in the event that they ever reignite their feud.

In other words, good wrestlers lie, and they lie a lot. Rhodes is no exception.

However, if there is real beef, then it’s a shame it might not lead to an in-movie fight between Guile and Akuma. I mean, isn’t that the whole point of Street Fighter?
