These days, it’s not a Bethesda release without some bugs and jank, but the long-awaited release of Starfield on PlayStation 5 found itself in far more unacceptable territory — constantly crashing.
Now, Bethesda says it’s aware of the reported issues that have impacted Starfield in its first week on PS5, and that a hotfix within a week is scheduled to alleviate those concerns.
It’s unclear how quickly the hotfix will arrive, but given the surrounding circumstances that Starfield on PlayStation 5 currently finds itself in, it’s probably happening imminently.

I Don’t Think Starfield Is Capable Of Making A Cyberpunk 2077 Level Comeback
Bethesda’s latest RPG is likely coming to PS5, but don’t expect a comeback on the scale of Cyberpunk 2077.
Starfield Players Were Already Requesting Refunds
As TheGamer first reported over the weekend, the crashes appeared to be widespread, impacting players on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, with repeated crashes happening in specific areas that may or may not have been impacted by the graphic settings used.
While some were willing to push through the issues, others weren’t as keen. Those players began requesting refunds for their purchase. However, as history has told us, getting a refund from Sony, especially on a title that’s been played, is easier said than done.
Some of those players took that feedback to the PlayStation Store, where 16 percent of Starfield’s overall reviews are between one and two-stars.
“Exploring the landscape with the scanner equipped has caused game to freeze 4 times now. It’s a game mechanic I’ll have to avoid going forward,” a user wrote in one review.
Things on Metacritic aren’t faring much better, with the User Score sitting at 6.1, with many pointing to the repeated crashes as a source of frustration. One user said that they were refused a refund on PlayStation, and they deeply regret purchasing the title.
Perhaps the immediate fix could change that tune.
