In case you missed it, Fox McCloud is embarking on a comeback tour, and it begins in about five days when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in theaters. Because, in a massive bit of news, it was revealed that, after some heavy fan speculation about an appearance, Fox McCloud really is part of the cast of the upcoming sequel to the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
If that wasn’t enough of an announcement, Nintendo and Illumination followed it up by revealing that Glen Powell, who has starred in his fair share of movies involving fighter planes, would be the voice of Fox McCloud.

Nintendo Switch 2’s New Boost Mode Finally Makes It A Console Worth Buying
Playing in portable mode on Nintendo Switch 2 has never been better thanks to the new Boost Mode.
It’s a massive moment for a franchise that has spent several years lying in dormancy, and it’s not just fans who are pumped up to see a Fox McCloud poster for a big-screen movie. His original creators are, too.
Taking to social media, Argonaut Games, which helped bring about the original Star Fox to consoles, was amped to see Fox in all his HD glory as part of a movie poster.
That hype coincided with a separate post from Dylan Cuthbert, the person largely credited with giving Fox his McCloud surname.
In other words, it’s a full-on celebration.
The Star Fox News Doesn’t Stop There, Either
Hot off the reveal that Fox would be making his big screen debut, a Nintendo insider reported that Star Fox will also be coming to a console near you before the end of the year. Specifically, the first Star Fox adventure in a decade will be coming in 2026.
“Star Fox is coming back in summer 2026. We’re getting a new Star Fox game in the very near future,” insider Natethehate said. “I’ve been told it’s a classic style Star Fox game, [and that] the visuals are supposed to be very good, and I’ve heard it does have online multiplayer.”
That might explain the reveal. If you’re a fan of Fox, then these last 48 hours or so have been nothing short of a whirlwind of energy.
