Sony may be moving away from smartphone games, but make no mistake, MLB The Show Mobile is probably going to be massive.

Fresh from MLB The Show 26’s chart topping performance in March, Sony has released a new trailer showing off its mobile adaptation of the baseball sim.

This is being developed internally at first-party San Diego Studio, and it looks like it’ll translate the top-notch gameplay of the home console sim to smartphones well.

The gameplay does appear to be slightly simplified: the pitch-perfect pitching mechanic of the console game has been replaced by a simpler timing meter, like in old versions of the franchise. But you still have timing and placement batting options, and you control the precision of your fielders, too.

Obviously this is a free-to-play game built around the Diamond Dynasty card collecting mode of the main game. This may not be your preferred way to play, but obviously the format translates perfectly to mobile.

This game is already available in some territories, but it’s the US where it’ll do the bulk of its business, and you can pre-register on the App Store and Google Play Store right now.

There’s no word on a final release date, but San Diego Studio is running a pre-registration campaign through May, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it dropped at some point in June.

As alluded to at the start of this article, Sony has quietly axed most of its mobile projects behind-the-scenes, but MLB The Show Mobile is one title that survived the chop. We expect this to be pretty big, to be honest.
