Next month’s State of Play will be broadcast in theatres around the United States, marking the first time Sony’s beamed one of its presentations to the big screen since E3 2018.
Alama Drafthouses around America will open their doors for select fans to enjoy the festivities, where there’ll be “a themed menu of claw-worthy bites and cocktails, as well as exclusive giveaways”.

- San Francisco Bay Area
- Chicago
- Dallas
- New York City
The claw pun is in reference to Marvel’s Wolverine, which has already been confirmed as the show’s opener. There’ll also be various other PS5 announcements from both first-party and third-party studios across the hour-plus livestream.
Sony Pictures bought Alamo Drafthouse in 2024, so the synergy makes sense here.
These theatres are known for their emphasis on etiquette and high-quality snacks during movies, so we suspect the food will be good during the State of Play.
Most seats across the country look like they’ve already been scooped up to us, so if you missed out, you’re probably already out of luck.
I personally wouldn’t take this as confirmation the State of Play will be good – that ultimately all comes down to personal taste – but I do think this proves Sony is taking things seriously, even though this was probably pretty easy to organise seeing as it already owns the cinema chain.
Nevertheless, it’s cool to see it putting on a fan event like this again, because its community outreach has been awful since the start of the generation, and I’d love to see it doing more stuff like this around the world.
