Sony and Housemarque have debuted the first episode of a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Saros, PS5’s newest exclusive game.
The video, which you can watch below, focuses on lead actor Rahul Kohli and his experience bringing main character Arjun Devraj to life:
Perhaps the most interesting detail is an anecdote about how Kohli came to discover Arjun’s true voice and character.
“I had to catch a flight, and Housemarque wouldn’t have access to me for six months,” Kohli recalls. “And they needed the trailer. And in order for me to make my flight I had to record on the other side of town in LA crazy early. And I’m stuck in traffic.”
He explains that he was “so worked up and angry” from the situation that, when he recorded for the teaser trailer, the voice was “angrier, more intense than anything we’d done or explored previously.”
Kohli says that he and director Gregory Louden agreed: “Wait, that’s him. That’s who we’ve been looking for.”
So, it turns out that a bad commute was enough to draw out the rage and intensity required for Arjun. We’ve all been there; we imagine channeling those emotions into Saros was quite cathartic.
The video is really nicely produced, and features a lot of footage from the performance capture stage. It’s always great to get a peek behind the curtain, especially on big budget games like Saros.
