Uh oh, we’re getting close to the video game silly season, and summertime rumours are starting to emerge.
One new whisper on the wind is that of a possible remake of Rayman Legends, Ubisoft’s vibrant side-scrolling platformer.
This comes from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who is generally pretty reliable. Speaking on a recent episode of the website’s podcast, he casually mentions the remake’s existence.
Henderson says he’s been hearing “quite a lot of positive things about the Rayman Legends remake”, reiterating later that the project is in progress.
“I think we’ll hear about it this summer,” he says. “But who knows? They’re doing the Rayman Legends remake, so we’ll see. But like I said, they’re bringing everything back from that game.”
He sounds fairly certain the game is coming, then, and says a reveal this summer is a possibility. That makes sense given June is around the corner, and that’s typically when we see a lot of announcements from major publishers.
We have heard previously that there are more than one Rayman projects in development right now, and we wouldn’t be surprised to learn one of them is a remake of Legends, which was critically and commercially successful.
It originally launched in 2013 for PS3 (and Vita!) and came to PS4 the following year.
If you ask us, Rayman Legends is a game that really doesn’t need a remake; it’s available to play on modern systems, and it still looks great and plays wonderfully.
If the remake does exist, it’ll be very interesting to see what it adds to get people on board once again.
