Minor spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem.
When exploring the Raccoon City police station in Resident Evil Requiem, you will eventually trigger a cutscene between Zeno and Grace, which leads to a playable flashback in the orphanage in which Chloe must escape from “the children” into the bowels of ARK. It’s a brilliant little hide and seek segment unique from anything else in the game, but on replays, it can be pretty tedious – especially when achievement hunting.
Thankfully, modders have already implemented a workaround, allowing you to completely skip the orphanage and jump right back into the action to continue playing. If you’re gunning for completion challenges like beating the game without healing, or if you’re just rushing to ARK for those final few files and Mr Raccoon Memoriams, it’s a godsend. But if you’re trying to beat the game in under four hours, it’s a little cheesy.
This Mod Also Skips The Wrenwood Intro
Courtesy of scoovy, you can download the “Skip intro and Chloe Orphanage” mod here. But be warned that to accomplish this, the cutscenes are sped up and “may result in flashing lights” as a result. As the title suggests, not only does this mod skip the orphanage, but also the Wrenwood Hotel, another story-heavy segment that doesn’t offer much on subsequent playthroughs.
If you’re looking to really streamline future playthroughs, scoovy’s work pairs nicely with kanonnakajima’s mod, “Auto-Skip Cutscenes,” which does exactly what it says on the tin.
If you decide to install it, scoovy warns that “some users are experiencing issues with the mod simply not working or causing infinite load at some parts.” Right now, it’s unclear what is causing these issues, as scoovy has not been able to replicate them. This may simply be an issue with the EGS version of the game, and so, for the time being, they recommend that if you do run into these bugs, that you should verify the game files or remove other mods which may be conflicting.
Many fans are calling for Capcom to officially implement this feature so that console users can also skip the more plodding segments of the game, but it’s unlikely that similar functionality to this mod will be added in any future updates. Flashbacks like Chloe’s are common throughout the series, with the Resident Evil 2 remake even featuring another orphanage section in which Sherry must escape from Chief Irons, and no skip was ever implemented.
But for those of you on PC, scoovy’s mod is a solid workaround that will wring out some of the tedium when going for 100 percent completion.
