Resident Evil Requiem Datamine Suggests Nemesis Wasn’t Originally Gideon’s Final Form

Resident Evil Requiem Datamine Suggests Nemesis Wasn’t Originally Gideon’s Final Form

Resident Evil Requiem has been out for a little while now, and since it’s not exactly the longest game in the world, most people that have picked it up will have finished it by now. That means they’ll have seen the big twist that involves central protagonist Victor Gideon, the snakeskin and goggle-wearing maniac that kidnaps Grace and is Leon’s main target.

Of course, what with Requiem being a Resident Evil game, Gideon transforming into some kind of horrible being was always going to be inevitable, but there was a difference this time. If you do not want to see that difference, then it’s your time to dip, because endgame spoilers are coming your way. You have been warned.

Gideon’s Final Form Was Seemingly Something Completely Different

Okay, so those of you that are still here will probably be aware that during your final confrontation with Gideon, he essentially turns into the final form of Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 Remake, tying the two villains together. It was a little disappointing for a lot of people, and didn’t really seem to fit Gideon’s overall aesthetic.

However, that might be because Gideon’s original form was seemingly something a lot different. Earlier today, a Twitter user called Umesooooo dived into the files of Resident Evil Requiem to find two untextured models of Gideon which hinted at a much more gradual and dramatic transformation.

Instead of the return of Resident Evil 3 Remake’s Nemesis, Gideon would have begun transforming with a single wing out of his right shoulder, kind of giving off some Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 vibes. A different model for his final mutation also seems to have been made, but this one is made up of multiple chimerical heads and snake parts, which fit Gideon’s aesthetic a lot better.

For some reason, it seems like Capcom made a pretty radical shift during development to tie Gideon and Nemesis together, and we don’t really know why. It could be a development issue, and making a whole new deformed beast would have been too much effort, or there was a story change somewhere down the line. Whatever the case, it’s interesting to see that Requiem’s story could have been a lot different.
