One could be forgiven for assuming that Sony wouldn’t drop another big event until early June. That, after all, is when Summer Game Fest will roll around with the most heavy-hitting, E3-replacing, industry reveals of the year. At least, this side of December, when The Game Awards strikes back.
But then again, not every PlayStation State of Play is going to bring the roof down with excitement. Maybe that’s how April 16’s rumored event will go—or perhaps it will be downright sensational. What matters is that a reliable leaker has reason to strongly hypothesize we’ll be getting our latest SoP long before SGF rolls around two months down the road.
“Been Hearing”
When NateTheHate says he’s “been hearing” something, it doesn’t always mean it’s going to happen. As the prolific podcaster has often noted, the industry is in flux; things change behind the scenes all the time. By and large, however, there’s been relentless evidence to illustrate his authenticity. Even when things do get shuffled, they tend to happen sooner, rather than later.
And it just so happens that Nate—fully armed with his usual, sensible, caveat—suspects that April 16 might well be the day. Bless you, ResetEra, for so frequently playing host to his thoughts.
“Didn’t expect this to be a thread, so I’ll just share the date I’ve heard but haven’t confirmed yet: I’ve been hearing there may be a SoP on April 16th.” -NateTheHate
That’s not all. In a follow-up post, the leaker added that Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag’s upcoming remake will be formally unveiled on, wait for it, April 16. This one’s a two-for-one deal, as another insider said the same thing, on the same forum, earlier today. For his part, Nate’s uncertain as to whether this will occur in tandem with a State of Play, and not just because he’s still locking down whether April 16 will indeed sport one to begin with.
But what matters most here is that, if Nate is hearing April 16 at all for one, then unless something shifts to a considerable degree (which is possible!), there should be another big PlayStation Direct event coming in the next couple of weeks, tops.
