The Street Fighter trailer recently dropped, building up what looks like a year of fighting game movies. It’s not as dark and gritty as the one for Mortal Kombat 2, opting to go for a goofier approach, but both of them are equally as corny as their respective games, which seems about right.
With two of the biggest fighting game IPs launching movies so close together, there’s undoubtedly going to be some rivalry kicking up between fans about which one is better. However, Andrew Schulz took a direct crack at the Mortal Kombat 2 cast when the entire Street Fighter crew came on stage at The Game Awards 2025.
Round 2, Fight!
During the show, Schulz took the mic and announced that the Mortal Kombat 2 cast was also there, before saying that he was joking, and that “they only care about the money.” It was just a silly joke, trying to incite a rivalry where there isn’t any. After all, it’s great marketing for both movies if there is a rivalry between them.
In a conversation with IGN, Liu Kang actor Ludi Lin reacted to the latest Street Fighter trailer and then recalled Schulz’s antics at TGA 2025. “I know this whole rivalry started with Andrew Shulz,” he said. “Andrew Shultz. Just lay off the fans man. That last Game Awards… it’s fine to throw shade on us. I think the fans were excited, if we were there, to have everyone on stage. Just watch out. Don’t make the fans angry.”
Although, he admitted that a healthy rivalry could work out well for both movies. “I just hope that they get it right. It’s a fun rivalry and I want to continue it. I’m not one to shy away from competition. I think it can be used in a way that makes both cinematic universes better. And make the fans… we’re going to share a lot of fans and make them both happy.”
Ludi Lin wasn’t the first Mortal Kombat actor to counter Schulz. Cole Young actor Lewis Tan said that Schulz was the last person who should say anything, as he’s not a fighter and not even really an actor. FATALITY!
