Marvel Rivals Fans Say Black Cat’s Face Is The Same As Rogue’s

Black Cat is joining Marvel Rivals this Friday, and she’s already managing to irritate half the playerbase. Mostly, that’s because she seems to have access to every ability under the sun, with a ridiculous amount of moves at her disposal. However, there’s something else that fans have noticed now that we have an official character model – she looks very familiar.

Many believe that Black Cat’s model uses the same face as Rogue’s. Looking at the pair side by side, it’s hard to deny the similarities. Their face shape, mouth, nose and eye placement are all identical, with the only real difference being Black Cat’s makeup. It’s enough for Marvel Rivals to get accused of ‘same face syndrome’, something usually reserved for Overwatch.

Black Cat And Rogue Look Very Similiar In Marvel Rivals, And Fans Aren Noticing That Other Female Characters Seem To Share A Face As Well

As the similarities between Rogue and Black Cat were pointed out, some started to look back through previous female characters… and noticed some similarities there, too. Now, it isn’t quite as bad as Overwatch blatantly using the same face for multiple heroes (including Anran, until the latest update), but some heroes look as if they could be related.

Admittedly, it took until Black Cat’s addition to the roster for these similarities to be noticed by many, so the different aesthetics donned by the heroes clearly did a decent job of masking this until now. It didn’t even get picked up in Black Cat’s first reveal, but rather, the reveal of her first unique skin. Because her hair is much bigger in her new outfit, some thought that it was actually a new skin for Rogue, leading them to realise how similar the pair look.

I wouldn’t hold your breath if you were expecting NetEase to take the Blizzard approach and promise any redesigns. So far, NetEase hasn’t been incredibly responsive to feedback about character models, particulalry design choices made for the female cast. The one thing it does have going for it is a little more body diversity than other hero shooters, with Rogue and Emma Frost being big and muscular.

Black Cat joins the roster on April 17.
