Today was supposed to be the day, readers.

In an alternative universe, we’re all sitting down with a hot cup of green tea and a copy of GTA 6. Okay, maybe it’s a bit too warm for anything but an iced drink, but who knows what the weather’s like in a parallel world, huh?

Anyway, the point I’m ambling around is that GTA 6 was originally due out today, 26th May. The game was delayed late last year into 19th November, and it does look like that date is going to hold, based on comments from Take-Two’s top brass.

What’s amusing is that despite the game originally being due out today, we haven’t actually seen any more of it in over a year.

Rockstar’s said the marketing will start this summer, which doesn’t officially get underway until next month – despite a few false alarms over the past few weeks.

I assume the game must be close to completion now; it’s been 13 long years since GTA 5, and while Rockstar’s obviously worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online in between, this sequel feels long overdue.

A lot is riding on it, too: outside of the new Switch 2, console sales have stagnated these past few months, due to rising hardware prices and economic headwinds. Despite a compelling lineup of titles in 2026 so far, I can’t help but feel like the industry needs GTA 6 this holiday.
