Here’s a story I didn’t expect to write on this otherwise uneventful Friday afternoon: Dr. Seuss’ iconic children’s novel The Cat in the Hat is coming to the PS5 and PS4.
Outright Games is making this one, which is described as a “party game” for up to four-players. It looks a lot like Mario Party to me, albeit with an emphasis on the minigames and not the board game stuff.
The press release says there are two main modes: the minigames and a “fast-paced hide-and-seek chase where you must find the elusive Cat in the Hat”.
Looking at the trailer, I think the dev has done a decent job of adapting Dr. Seuss’ iconic art style to a game – I really like details like the illustrated rain drops you can see in the trailer.
Fans will remember there was a The Cat in the Hat game for the PS1, a platformer, inspired by the 2003 Mike Myers movie.
Clearly this new game is targeting kids, and the documentation says there’ll be a ton of accessibility and difficulty options to make this “fun for players of all ages and skill levels”.
To be fair, Outright Games has been doing a decent job of making decent-ish console games for all ages, and I’d honestly much rather my kids play something like this than Roblox.
The game’s due out on 30th October, and while there’s no price mentioned in the press release, I can’t imagine it will break the bank.
