The genius mechanic Ellie returns in Borderlands 4, but unlike her mother Moxxie, her arrival on Kairos wasn’t successful. Her landing pod has crashed in the remote, icy region of The Whispering Glacier, and it’s not called whispering for nothing.

Borderlands 4: Claptrap Mission Location Guide
Searching for Claptrap? Of course you are.
A cosmic entity lurks in the region, driving anyone in the area mad with whispers and voices in their heads, and torments them with violent hallucinations of a strange monolith. Few can withstand the power, but Moxxie’s not about to leave her daughter to fend for herself against such an entity. Grab your guns, and swing by Mancubus’ bar before you go.
How To Start The Vault Of The Damned Missions
Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC has two ways to access its story campaign and content. The first is choosing to start a New Game on the main menu after purchasing the DLC, and selecting the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned game type.
Borderlands 4 Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store for $29.99.
This will start the game with a level 13 Vault Hunter, basic gear, movement abilities, a vehicle, and all the story missions required to start the DLC completed: Guns Blazing, Recruitment Drive, Down and Outbound, and A Lot To Process.
Using this method allows you to get right into the DLC with a new Vault Hunter after seeing a brief cutscene, such as C4SH the Rogue, who was released with Story Pack 1, and you won’t need to redo the starting missions.
Starting The DLC With An Old Character
If you want to play the DLC with your existing Vault Hunter and ensure any loot you get from the DLC is high-level, all you need to do is load your game like usual and ensure you’ve completed all the story missions up to and including A Lot To Process.
Fast travel to Zadra’s Backup Plan in the Dissected Plateau, and interact with the tentacle-covered statue in a slightly snowy nook near the top of the stairs.
This starts the Invitation story mission, and by interacting with the statue again, you’ll see a brief cutscene, the same one that plays if you started the DLC game type. You’ll be teleported to a new location and automatically begin On Icebound Shores Abandoned, the next story mission in the chain.

Kairos has plenty of people who need a Vault Hunter’s help.
