Both trailers for Grand Theft Auto 6 blew our minds with their stunning visual fidelity, intricate details, liquid physics, and even Lucia’s backside. While most of us don’t really trust trailers when it comes to showcasing how a game looks, Rockstar confirmed that the second trailer featured gameplay, meaning GTA 6 would actually look that good. However, a former artist on the project has warned us to temper our expectations.
Environmental artist David O’Reilly worked on GTA 6 for a number of years, and, while he’s excited for the third trailer, he has warned fans not to expect the final product to look that good. Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, he said development has grown exponentially since he left, but the trailers make everything look “madly polished.”
GTA 6 May Not End Up Looking As Good As The Trailers
“When you make a trailer, they look at where the camera’s going to be, and that view is getting madly polished,” O’Reilly explained (thanks GamesRadar). “Whereas everything that’s not in that view is not getting madly polished yet. “The whole world doesn’t look like that. You focus on the areas of the trailer.”
The trailers undoubtedly look fantastic, but nobody would blame you for reserving your judgement until the game finally comes out, even if it’s Rockstar. We know the studio can deliver unmatched quality, but O’Rilley’s point is that the trailer is specially crafted to show those fantastic visuals, while the final game may not get the exact same treatment.
“With GTA 6, people are like, ‘What’s the story?’,” he added when asked for any other details. “And I’m like, ‘I’ve no idea, dude, I don’t know.’ Because I worked on it for five years, but I have no idea about the storyline, other than I knew it had two characters, and that was the extent of my knowledge.”
It’s not long now. We’re only a few months away from arguably the biggest video game launch in history. I guess we’ll soon know for ourselves if GTA 6 actually looks that good.
