Fortnite does crossovers unlike anything else in entertainment, with characters from just about every major IP showing up in the battle royale game. It all started almost eight years ago with a Marvel crossover to help generate hype for Avengers: Infinity War right after it hit theaters. It looks like everything is about to come full circle as Fortnite is teasing the return of the LTM that was at the core of that collab.
Fortnite’s Infinity Gauntlet LTM Might Return
That core was the Fortnite x Marvel Infinity Gauntlet LTM. The aim of the limited-time mode was to seek out the Infinity Gauntlet, which would land on the island by way of a meteor at the start of each match. Grab the Gauntlet, and you become an incredibly overpowered Thanos who can then wield the power of the Gauntlet’s Infinity Stones to start taking out everyone else on the island.
No snapping your fingers to instantly wipe out half the lobby. That would have been fun, but also incredibly unfair and annoying.
To try and level the playing field against the Gauntlet-wielding Mad Titan, the LTM’s chests were filled with weapons used by various Avengers. You could find Cap’s Shield, Thor’s Stormbreaker, Iron Man’s Repulsors, and Hawkeye’s Bow to help you in the quest to take down Thanos.
Clear Your Calendars From April 3 Onwards
Epic used images of Fortnite characters holding those iconic Marvel weapons during the LTM, and it’s the unexpected, and so far unexplained, return of one of those images that strongly suggests the Infinity Gauntlet will return to Fortnite. Epic has shared the image of Brite Bomber holding Cap’s Shield on social media, coupled with the caption “Whatever it takes” along with a date – April 3, 2026.
I don’t know about you, but that makes me think that on April 3, after seven years, the Infinity Gauntlet will return to Fortnite. It was brought back for Endgame’s release one year after its initial eight-day run (I can’t believe it was only around for eight days, I dread to think how many hours I put in during such a short window) with a slightly tweaked ruleset.
The Endgame LTM really was the collab that turned Fortnite into the IP juggernaut that almost everyone is desperate for their characters to be a part of. Without it, who knows what Fortnite would be today? As for why now, that’s not entirely clear. Avengers: Doomsday is coming up, and it will be the first big Avengers movie since Endgame. That’s not releasing until December, though. Maybe the Limited Time Mode won’t be quite so limited, and it’ll stick around for the rest of the year.
