As promised, Square Enix will host a broadcast in celebration of Dragon Quest’s 40th anniversary this week.
It’s happening on the 27th May at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST, so the good news is that I won’t be staying up all night to catch it.
The show will be available in Japanese and in English via subtitles. It’s being streamed over on YouTube through the official Dragon Quest channel.
But here’s the really interesting part: the broadcast is only going to last around 10 minutes, which pretty much puts to bed recent rumours that Square Enix is planning multiple major announcements.
So, it’s going to be a short one — but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. A quick introduction from series creator Yuji Horii, followed by a couple of trailers? One for Dragon Quest 12, surely? That sounds alright to me.
It’s also possible that this event will be used as a launching pad for additional information down the line. It’s not difficult to imagine, for example, that Dragon Quest 12 finally gets its re-reveal here, and then we’re told that there’ll be more to see at Summer Game Fest (which is next week).
