By all accounts, Epic Games, the studio behind live-service smash-hit Fortnite, is not currently for sale. They are, however, in the process of instituting some massive cost-cutting measures to the tune of over 1,000 layoffs, including some of the hands behind Fortnite’s most iconic characters.
However, if Epic Games were ever to be for sale, then consider Disney as a potential purchaser.

Epic Games Layoffs Included Terminally Ill Father, Whose Family Has Now Lost His Life Insurance
Included among the 1,000 laid off this week from Epic Games was Mike Prinke, a terminally ill father battling cancer.
As first spotted by GameSpot, in an appearance on The Town, Alex Heath, a tech industry reporter, said that he knows “for a fact” that Disney’s senior executives want to buy Epic Games and are simply just waiting for the right time. Not all executives share that enthusiasm, though, and some are against the idea, believing it’s a bad one, per Heath.
“I think if Epic ever sold, if it ever decided to call it quits on being an independent company, Disney would be the most natural home for it for a lot of reasons,” Heath said.
A Former Executive Is Also Of The Mind That It’s A Good Idea
In speaking with CNBC for a separate interview, Kevin Mayer, a former senior executive at Disney and briefly the CEO of TikTok, who now serves as the CEO of Candle Media, said that Disney acquiring Epic Games would be a good step towards generating more money.
“I think Epic or some other video game asset would be a great addition to The Walt Disney Company’s asset base,” he said.
It helps, then, that Disney’s current CEO, Josh D’Amaro, is a massive video games fan. He was a major part of Disney’s $1.5 billion investment into Epic Games and Fortnite specifically. The Hollywood Reporter further reported that D’Amaro will put a greater emphasis on gaming and interactivity as CEO.
Which is to say, if it isn’t Epic Games, then it seems like Disney is gearing up for some sort of major move in the gaming space. Only time will tell what exactly that move is.
