Borderlands 4 was supposed to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 last October. Its release was delayed with only a few days to go, and all pre-orders were canceled. However, it looks like at least one copy of the game made it off the factory line.
Someone Bought A Switch 2 Copy Of Borderlands 4 On Vinted
A Reddit user called Veloxplayer098 shared photos of a physical copy of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2 over the weekend. Apparently, they bought it on Vinted, and the seller claims they found the game at a flea market. All pretty strange, and maybe a little bit shady, but the limited evidence suggests the pictured game is the real deal.
The images include a look at the game’s case along with its card, which is a game-key card. That’s where the first problem arises. When inserted into their Switch 2, there’s nothing to download. There’s no way of finding out whether it was always a blank card or if there was really something to redeem, as the code has already been claimed by a previous owner.
Borderlands 4’s Switch 2 Port Is Running Into The Same Problem Baldur’s Gate 3 Had On Xbox Series S
The Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 is sounding less and less like it will be the same as it is on other platforms.
The Game Is Real, But There’s No Way To Play It
The owner’s console does recognize that it’s a real game, though, and even mentions the DLC, taking them to an eShop page which still has it listed as releasing on October 3, 2025. That, obviously, never happened, and there’s a chance at this stage that it never will. The last we heard about the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 was that work on it had been paused in February of this year. Many have assumed that effectively means the Nintendo version of the game has been scrapped.
A copy of it showing up in the wild further shows just how close we were to release day when Take-Two, 2K, and Gearbox decided that the Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4 wasn’t fit for public consumption. That decision was made less than two weeks before the game was supposed to launch on Switch 2. With such a small gap between that and its planned release, it stands to reason that there were already physical copies out in the world. Now at least one of those copies has found its way into someone’s Switch 2.
The slim silver lining for Borderlands fans who were left without a way to play the latest game in the series, thanks to the Switch 2 version getting indefinitely delayed, is that there’s now an unexpected mobile spinoff for you to play. Set between the events of the third and fourth game, Borderlands Mobile shadow dropped last week. It’s an unfinished version of the game that’s only available in certain regions, but it’s better than nothing.
