There was a period there, after Crash Bandicoot went multi-platform and then left altogether, where PlayStation was lacking a solid, reliable mascot. That position has now firmly been filled by the adorable Astro Bot, a platforming mascot so popular that PlayStation felt the need to turn the little guy into a little fridge.
Introducing The Official Astro Bot Mini Fridge
Well, not all of him – just his head. Yes, Astro Bot has officially joined the surprisingly well-populated world of video game-themed mini fridges. Maybe not so surprising, actually, since mini fridges are kind of perfect for gamers. A small fridge that can hold a few drinks you can access without having to get up and go all the way to the kitchen.
Astro Bot’s contribution to the gaming mini fridge world is a refrigerator modeled after his own head. It’s 17 inches tall and has a four-litre capacity, so it is capable of holding between six and 12 cans, which is pretty sizable for a mini fridge. The best feature of all is on the outside, though, not the inside, as the Astro fridge is equipped with blue LEDs that make its eyes light up when the door is shut.
If you’ve heard enough and you want to keep your cold drinks and snacks inside a refrigerated Astro Bot head, the mini fridge is available right now at Target for $99.99. Stock availability may vary depending on where you are , as it seems stores have the fridge in limited quantities.
As fun an idea as an Astro Bot mini fridge is, it’s probably wise to assume these won’t be flying off the shelves. Best to play it safe.
Astro Bot Joins A Club Xbox And Minecraft Have Been Members Of For Years
Astro Bot joins a gaming mini fridge collection that, as far as I’m aware, is yet to include any PlayStation exclusive games or characters. Minecraft is one of the bigger players when it comes to fridges, having released designs that look like a Creeper, a Creeper’s head, and my favorite, the game’s TNT block.
However, if you have seen a gaming fridge before today, then it’s probably one of Xbox’s. When Xbox released the Series X six years ago, many of you joked that it kind of looked like a refrigerator. Xbox leaned into the joke and made that a reality, gifting a full-sized Series X fridge to Snoop Dogg, for some reason. It then leaned into the joke even more by releasing a mini fridge version of the Series X for a wider release.
