Street Fighter 6 really does feel like a throwback in many ways, because it actually takes its single player seriously.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a game that revolves around esports, but Capcom hasn’t abandoned casuals who just want to interact with the fun gameplay. The excellent World Tour mode is an obvious example.
But I’m so excited to learn that on 28th May, alongside the anticipated addition of Ingrid, the publisher will be adding a ton of content pertaining to avatars.
For those who don’t know, avatars are your custom characters, which can learn moves from the various masters in the game. You can kit them out with clobber, assign them a variety of different attacks, and pit them against each other online in Battle Hub.
But alongside the new update, you’ll be able to do so much more with them.
First up there’s Random Avatar Matches, which will effectively allow you to matchmake against other avatars. Stats will be maximised so everyone’s on a level playing field, but this will give you a quicker route to play online matches with your avatar.
As you win rounds you’ll earn Avatar Points, which will allow you to unlock additional accessories and track your rankings. I think it’s cool Capcom’s gone the extra mile here.
But for the single players, there’ll be the new Avatar Arcade mode. This will allow you to fight against any of the game’s masters to earn bond points, which will allow you to more quickly unlock their Outfit 2.
The really cool new addition, though, is Battle Tour – effectively a new arcade ladder, featuring World Tour NPCs and the aforementioned masters. You’ll unlock legacy Street Fighter endings and tons of other content by engaging with this, so it’s a whole new reason to play.
All of this content will be available for free by the way, so it’s another reason to return to the game and hone your skills.
I just love how strong the post-release support for Street Fighter 6 has been, and while I was already excited to try out Ingrid, I’m probably going to get a dozen more hours out of these new avatar modes.
This game really is the gift that keeps on giving.
