How Much They Cost Following Season 2 Price Increase

Epic controversially revealed it would be increasing the price of V-Bucks earlier this month, citing a need to “pay the bills” as the reason for doing so. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 begins today, which means those announced price hikes have now gone live, so this is how much the in-game currency is going to cost you starting today.

If you buy V-Bucks, even if it’s just to purchase the Battle Pass each season, this is a breakdown of just how much extra you’re going to have to pay if you do plan on still playing and buying in-game currency following today’s price increase. There are plans to boycott the game in the face of the price hike. That’s seemingly only for today, although that will have an effect since the days on which new seasons begin are typically the ones when Fortnite’s player count spikes the highest.

How The V-Bucks Price Hike Affects Fortnite’s Battle Pass

pile of fortnite v bucks.

Before today, you could buy 1,000 V-Bucks for $8.99. Now that today’s update is live, that same amount of real-life money will only get you 800 V-Bucks, so a 20 percent cut on your return for the same amount of money. The silver lining is that the cost of the Battle Pass has also been reduced from 1,000 V-Bucks to 800 V-Bucks, so you can still purchase the minimum amount to have enough for the Pass. However, also starting this season, there will be fewer V-Bucks to unlock as you progress through the Battle Pass.

It’s a drop from 1,500 V-Bucks to just 800. That means you will now have to unlock every V-Buck the Battle Pass has to offer if you want to avoid spending real-life money to have enough in-game currency to purchase the next one. As for those of you who spend your V-Bucks on more than just the Battle Pass, the rest of the price changes are detailed below.

As you can see, percentage-wise, the more you spend, the more you potentially save, or in this case, the less you lose out on. While those buying their V-Bucks $9-worth at a time will be getting 20 percent less than they used to, if you buy the $90 bundle, the cut is less than eight percent. That said, getting 1,000 fewer V-Bucks than you were before doesn’t sound much better than the 20 percent cut the lowest bundle has been subjected to.
