Almost anyone can relate to those moments of panic when you realize you have forgotten or misplaced your phone. While Samsung Galaxy watches have long featured notifications for when a phone is separated from its owner, Google has now announced that it is bringing this same capability to Pixels.
Google’s latest Pixel Drop is adding a slew of enhancements to the ecosystem. Beyond the Pixel phones, Pixel Watches are also getting some fresh tricks with the update, including a tool that could prove indispensable for those who frequently misplace their devices.
Prevent Your Phone from Being Stolen or Lost
With this update, Pixel users will now be alerted through their Pixel Watch if they become separated from their phone. The alert arrives as a visual nudge and a haptic vibration once the watch detects that the connected Pixel phone is no longer nearby. You can easily dismiss the alert on your watch once you have recovered your handset.
For added security, the phone will automatically lock the moment the connection with the Pixel Watch is severed. This adds a robust layer of protection against theft, preventing unauthorized access to your apps and data. Notably, this is a more proactive security measure compared to previous implementations of similar features.

The feature is rolling out with the March Pixel Drop, which is now arriving on devices. The left-behind feature is compatible with the Pixel Watch 2, Watch 3, and Watch 4 series, while supported phones include the Pixel 8 and later models, including Pixel 10 Pro (review).
The Pixel Watch is Getting Even Smarter
As part of this update, Google is expanding the Find My Device hub on the Pixel Watch. The app now gives users the ability to see the location of their various devices and accessories directly from their wrist. It also supports ringing nearby devices for easier tracking.
Elsewhere, Google is enabling trusted locations feature for select Pixel Watch models, which removes the need for authentication when you are in a safe, pre-defined area. This is available for the Pixel Watch 3 and Watch 4 when paired with a Pixel 8 or newer. The March update also allows the Pixel Watch to confirm Identity Checks, provided it is connected to the phone.
Finally, in countries where Google Wallet is supported, users can now use their Pixel Watch for express payments at retailers or for transit on buses and trains. Express Pay must be enabled first within the Watch app settings.
