After several weeks of rumors, PlayStation finally broke its silence on Monday, announcing that a State of Play presentation would be held on Thursday, promising 60-plus minutes of “news, gameplay updates, and announcements from game studios across the globe,” making it one of the longer presentations on record.
However, it didn’t take long for one of Thursday’s expected titles, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, to have information leak prematurely. In a new Steam update, information about the game’s roster, online multiplayer and single-player components have percolated.
“It’s time to build your dream team and break some spirits in blistering 4v4 fighting action,” the description reads in part. “Choose from an expanding roster of 20 iconic Marvel characters at launch, each rendered in a bold new anime-inspired art style and members of their own unique teams of equally impressive heroes and villains.”
As it stands, only eight fighters (Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Star Lord, Storm, Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider) have been confirmed, meaning an additional 12 fighters will be revealed between now and launch, with plans for things to expand.
Marvel Tokon Is The First Triple-A Fighting Game Doing Something New In A Long Time
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is the most anticipated fighting game in years, and there are many good reasons why.
The description further notes that 64-player online lobbies will also be present. As a final note, there will be a single-player component with lore.
“Plus, dive deep on each team with the single-player Episode Mode to learn more about team dynamics and lore.”
Given how close we are to Thursday’s State of Play, it’s likely that things went live a little early, and perhaps more will be shared by then. If there is one area of concern, it’s that 20 characters at launch for a 4v4 tag fighter is a bit small. Depending on how quickly the “expanding” world comes about, it could be a small issue.
Marvel Tokon’s Roster Had Been One Of Its Most Discussed Elements
Following the reveal of Tokon: Fighting Souls last June, the minds of gamers and comic book fans alike went into overdrive attempting to decipher which characters would get the anime-style treatment and get added to the game.
However, with each passing month, trailer and beta experience, the roster remained stagnant, leaving many to wonder when the next reveal would happen. An early December beta test, one that featured a new stage, gave fans hope that new characters could be on their way, specifically more of the X-Men.
Monday’s leak should go a long way in settling things down for a fanbase that is eagerly awaiting the next character reveal.
