Ever since the 007 First Light gameplay reveal last September, there have been concerns over performance, and those concerns were only compounded when the game was delayed by three months for “polish,” and when the PC system specs demanded a CPU that didn’t exist yet.
Ambitiously, IO Interactive announced a day-and-date Switch 2 port despite the clear struggles it was already facing on more powerful hardware. However, that port has now been delayed.
007 First Light comes to Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer.
“007 First Light comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 27, 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer,” the official X account posted. “We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms.”
007 First Light Will Now Release “Later This Summer” On Switch 2, Release Date Unchanged for Xbox, PlayStation, And PC
No explanation has been given for the delay, but considering the “rough” framerate wobbles in the gameplay trailers shown thus far, and the “aggressive” motion blur used to mask it, it’s likely that more time was needed for optimization on the Switch 2 port, given its weaker hardware.
Indeed, last year, FromSoftware announced that the Elden Ring port had been delayed into 2026 as the team required more time for “performance adjustments,” while the Borderlands 4 port was indefinitely delayed as Gearbox needed “additional development and polish time.” Reports also suggest that work on bringing Starfield to Switch 2 isn’t going smoothly, and that it “might not even come out at all” due to the performance woes.
