Where Winds Meet is a new free-to-play open-world ARPG published by NetEase Games. You create a character, play through the campaign, and then embark on an endgame grind and other activities, like dungeons and raids. There’s just one issue: once you create a character you can’t delete it. There is currently no option to do so in the game.
This means you need to be careful about how you set up your character to begin with. Pick the exact character you want at the start of the game, and the difficulty level you want to play at. If you want to start fresh, you’ll need to make a new account.
Character Creation Guide
You can customize your character in-detail or by using custom presets. These choices have no real impact on anything in-game, so you don’t need to worry about cosmetic changes coming in to play later down the line.
However, you can also choose the difficulty level of the character. You can only choose Expert difficulty from a new character, and if you choose Expert and then go down in difficulty, you won’t be able to go back to the harder difficulty.
If you beat the game on Expert difficulty, you’ll receive a cosmetic badge that shows other players that you beat the game on the hardest difficulty.
If you’re an experienced Souls-like player, you should go for Expert for an experience akin to something like Sekiro. If you prefer a more relaxed style of play, go for Recommended or Story.
Why Can’t You Delete Your Character?
You can only currently have one character in Where Winds Meet. Once created, the character is tied indefinitely to your account, and you aren’t able to delete it. If you want a fresh character, you’ll need to make a new Steam account or access the game via another platform.
It seems that players on the Chinese version of the game have been able to have multiple characters per account. Via the official Where Winds Meet Discord, it also appears the developers are aware of the issue and might be working on a fix.
