Xenoblade Chronicles X Is On Sale For $40, Upgrade To Switch 2 Edition For $5

Xenoblade Chronicles X Is On Sale For , Upgrade To Switch 2 Edition For

Nintendo revealed a Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition Switch 2 edition yesterday out of nowhere, and it’s available now. The Switch 2 edition costs $64.99, or if you own the Switch version, you can upgrade for $4.99. However, physical copies of the regular Switch version of the remaster are currently on sale, which means you can technically get its Switch 2 edition for quite a bit less.

Physical copies of Xenoblade Chronicles X retail for $59.99, the same as the digital version that’s currently available through the eShop. When Nintendo made its big Switch 2 upgrade announcement, however, the physical version of the game was on sale at Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop. I expected that to change after the upgrade’s reveal, but here we are the following day, and Xenoblade Chronicles X is still on sale.

You Can Technically Get Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Switch 2 Edition For $45 Instead Of $65

It’s a significant price cut across all three of the retailers mentioned above. Amazon and GameStop are selling the game for $39.99, and it’s slightly more expensive at Best Buy where you can pick up a copy for $41.99. You can’t see the price until you add the game to your cart at Best Buy, whereas the prices are prominently displayed on Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Amazon and GameStop store pages.

Buy a physical copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X for $40, and that means you’re technically buying the $65 Switch 2 edition for $45. Simply purchase the $4.99 upgrade pack through the eShop, and your base $40 version of Xenoblade Chronicles X will be upgraded to the $65 Switch 2 edition, effectively costing you only $45.

PlayStation Has Made This Mistake Before

This isn’t the first time studios have made this oversight, if this is indeed an oversight at all, and since it’s Nintendo we’re talking about here, I’d hazard to guess it almost certainly is. PlayStation didn’t anticipate people buying physical copies of The Last of Us Part 2 when it revealed people who already owned the game could upgrade to its remaster for $10. By picking up discounted copies, quite a few of you got the upgrade for free.

You can tell that was an oversight because when Horizon Zero Dawn got the same treatment, the pieces were already in place to make sure that couldn’t happen again. If you want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X in 4K, running at 60fps on your Switch 2, and you want to do it for $45 instead of $65, I’d pick up a base copy before Nintendo clocks what’s going on and contacts those retailers to tell them to return it to its full $59.99 MSRP.
