Seemingly out of nowhere, Microsoft has revealed its next-generation Xbox console, dubbed Project Helix. The announcement, which took the form of a seven-second video on social media, is dubbed “the next generation of Xbox console.”

The video depicts the formulation of a double helix structure, serving potentially as a sneak-peek at the console’s start-up screen or some variation.

Beyond revealing its codename, it has been confirmed that the console will run both Xbox and PC games, something that had long been rumored.

Newly-minted CEO Asha Sharma revealed as much on social media. “Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games,” Sharma wrote in part.

Ultimately, when the console does release, there’s a slim chance that it’ll be called the Xbox Helix. As Windows Central noted, Microsoft is no stranger to unique codenames for its hardware developments, including Durango for the Xbox 360, Scorpio for the Xbox One X, Anaconda for the Xbox Series X, Lockhart for the Xbox Series S and Kennan for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld line.
