Which Pokemon Should You Use The Master Ball On In Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen

As you progress through your gym challenge journey in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, you’ll occasionally need to help your fellow citizens against the evil plans of Team Rocket. Aside from being an unusually talented child capable of solving problems out of the goodness of their heart, there are also excellent rewards for your hard work, like the Master Ball.

The Master Ball will guarantee a catch, and is easy to get if you follow these steps to infiltrate Silph Co. and drive out the Team Rocket grunts and their leader, Giovanni.

Where To Get The Master Ball

The Silph Co entrance in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen.

After you acquire the Silph Scope and clear out the Lavender Town ghost tower, you can begin pursuing a Master Ball. First, you’ll need to reach Saffron City by navigating around from the east and approaching through the underground tunnel.

When you reach Saffron City, you’ll notice that the entire town is occupied by Team Rocket Grunts roaming the streets.

Head toward the large building in the center of town; this is Silph Co.

If you arrive before taking care of the ghost issue at the tower in Lavender Town, there will still be a Rocket guard blocking the entrance to Silph Co.

We revisit the toughest question in Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle?

How To Get Through Silph Co.

The Teleporter to your Rival in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen.

The Team Rocket guard will step aside from the entrance of Silph Co in Saffron City.

Fight your way up from the second floor, take the teleporter to the eighth floor, and dispatch the scientists here.

Their collection of Koffing and Grimer isn’t too tough, but they can poison you, so be careful and try to OHKO them if possible for safety.

The Rocket Brother in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen.

Collect the Iron here, then make your way down to the seventh floor and continue dispatching Team Rocket members, including one of the four Rocket Brothers.

Grab a Calcium in the bottom left, then head to the sixth floor.

Finding the Card Key in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen.

Take out the second Rocket brother on the eastern side of the floor, then continue to the fourth floor to grab the Card Key along the southern hall, past the Rocket Grunt and the teleporter.

You need to step on the teleporter, then come back to access the right side where the card key is.

With this key, you’ll be able to open a variety of locked doors across Silph Co.

You can get a Full Heal, Max Revive, and Escape Rope from the far left door on the fourth floor.

There’s also a Hyper Potion behind two doors in the southwest, next to Scientist Jose.

Head up to floor number nine, and you’ll encounter the third of four Team Rocket brothers in the southwestern hallway.

There’s also a bed to rest in if you venture into the southwestern corner.

Grab the Carbos, Rare Candy, and Ultra Ball on the tenth floor, then take the teleporter from the west side of the third floor to the seventh floor.

Here you’ll need to defeat your rival and their team in the 30s, which shouldn’t be too tough. Aside from his starter, your rival will have:

  • Pidgeot – Level 37
  • Alakazam – Level 35
  • Exeggcute – Level 35
  • Growlithe – Level 37

Claim a Lapras from the person in the same room as this battle.

Progress through the teleporter and defeat the final Rocket Grunt in your way, then unlock the door to Giovanni.

Defeat Giovanni’s team:

  • Nidorino – Level 37
  • Nidoqueen – Level 41
  • Kangaskhan – Level 35
  • Rhyhorn – Level 37

Once you defeat Giovanni, talk to the Silph Co. President on the couch in this room and claim your Master Ball.

Which Pokemon Should You Use The Master Ball On?

While deciding when to use your Master Ball is a deeply personal decision, depending on what Pokemon you like, there are a few major recommendations for what to use your Master Ball on:

  • Entei
  • Suicune
  • Raikou
  • Mewtwo
  • Shiny Pokemon

The best Pokemon to use your Master Ball on are the Legendary Dogs, which can flee and permanently disappear from your game if you faint them, or they use Roar to escape.

The available Legendary Pokemon will depend on which starter you choose, but any of the three are justifiable choices to catch with your Master Ball, given the high risk of losing them.

Entei appears if you choose Bulbasaur, as well as Suicune if you choose Charmander, and Raikou for Squirtle.
