Which Hunters Should You Recruit First In Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive?

You’ll be doing the bulk of the main story’s fighting as Sung Jinwoo in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive, but smart team composition using only the strongest Hunters you can afford to recruit can be the difference between life and succeeding at your mission, or death and being made to try again.

Each Hunter in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive brings something unique to the table with both an element in which they specialize and a consistent combat role they’ll play when put into your team. Spend your hard-earned Hunt Coins on only the strongest Solo Leveling:Arise Overdrive Hunters and power up.

With Lee Joohee, Song Chiyul, and Yoo Jinho unlocking by default through story progression in chapters one and two, we’ve omitted them from the list. These are the Hunters with whom you’ll need to negotiate a contract for work after finishing chapter three of the main story.

Element

Fire

Role

Mage

Recruitment Difficulty

Hard

An S-Rank Hunter, if you’re a Solo Leveling fan, then Choi Jong-In needs no introduction. He’s the strongest Hunter in the series, and you’ll see Sung Jinwoo marvel about meeting him the first time you speak in the player hub. Despite being one of the harder negotiations, though, this infamous Hunter is worth his weight in Hunt Coins.

That’s because Choi Jong-In has one of the highest base Attack stats you’ll find on any Hunter in the game, and with him serving as a Mage in combat, you’ll have plenty of opportunities for damage output.

Choi Jong-In not only has really good AoE damage, but compounding the Burn damage he can do using his Fire skills and blasting enemies as they crisp up is one of his specialties on the field.

Amamiya Mirei

Recruiting Amamiya Mirei in Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive.

Element

Wind

Role

Assassin

Recruitment Difficulty

Hard

Amamiya Mirei will be familiar to you already if you’re a fan of the manhwa, after Solo Leveling Arise received a spinoff volume. This Wind Assassin is great not only on her own in combat, but unlocking a second Hunter in Woo Jinchul makes the pair of them neigh unstoppable.

You can expect to see excellent burst damage from Amamiya Mirei when she’s on the field, and her Super Armor makes her much trickier to hit in any meaningful way when the enemies are on the counterattack. She’s canonically ready for battle at the drop of a hat, and she’ll show you what she can bring to your team comps.

Woo Jinchul

Element

Wind

Role

Fighter

Recruitment Difficulty

Hard

As mentioned above in Amamiya Mirei’s entry in our list of the best recruitable Hunters you can spring for in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive, you’ll find that Woo Jinchul is almost a perfect pairing for the aforementioned Wind Assassin. Even on his own, though, you’ll find plenty of uses for Woo Jinchul on the field.

With such impressive shielding and breaking capabilities, he’s essentially a must if you’re looking to perform any meaningful defense breaks to allow the other teammates to rush in and attack while the enemy is down and distracted. He’s a good pairing for just about any Wind character, but with Amamiya Mireis where you’ll see him shine the brightest.

Baek Yoonho

Recruiting Baek Yoonho in Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive.

Element

Light

Role

Fighter

Recruitment Difficulty

Hard

Though you’ll need to get acquainted with the much more heavy-handed playstyle of a character like Baek Yoonho, especially if you end up using him in the Co-Op Play mode, you’ll find no shortage of impressive moves and skills on this Light Fighter.

Not only does Baek Yoonho have pretty great DPS compared to other characters in his class, you’ll also find that he’s neigh indestructible himself. He’s got a staggering defensive stat that pairs well with his heavy DPS, allowing him to get up close and personal with the enemies he’s taking out before clearing them out handily.

Nam Chae-Young

Element

Aqua

Role

Archer

Recruitment Difficulty

Easy

The easiest negotiation you’ll face of any of the characters who made the cut for our list of the strongest Hunters in Solo Leveling: Arise, Nam Chae-Young is an excellent addition to the team no matter who you’re bringing in. She’s a ranged Aqua user who’s able to stay safely away from the action to keep herself protected.

Sung Jin-woo's eyes are glowing as he attacks someone in Solo Leveling.

Solo Leveling: Watching Order

Solo Leveling is a hit among the recent anime series. If you need a watching order guide for it, you have come to the right place.

She’s considered to be one of the more beginner-friendly teammates, too, due to her low investment cost for a high return for her ranged damage. If you need some support from afar and you’re not confident yet with ranged fighters on the field, consider Nam Chae-Young to get you started.

Lee Bora

Talking to Lee Bora in Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive.

Element

Dark

Role

Mage

Recruitment Difficulty

Hard

Once you’ve gotten the hang of having ranged fighters on your team, though, especially ones whose magic power will be a focal point in their combat, consider bringing Lee Bora into your team’s next mission in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive. Another difficult recruitment negotiation to succeed with, Lee Bora has a few roles to play on your team, making her worth the effort.

Not only is Lee Bora excellent with her DPS output as a Dark Mage, but you’ll find she’s also got some potent support moves as well. Work to upgrade both of these stats before long, though, and keep Lee Bora viable with your team into the end-game of Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive.

Cha Hae-In

Talking to Cha Hae-In in Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive.

Element

Light

Role

Fighter

Recruitment Difficulty

Normal

If you’re a fan of stacking your critical hit damage (and bulking up the rate at which you score critical hits in combat), then you’ll definitely want to invest in Cha Hae-In before too long. She’s only got a Normal difficulty for her recruitment, unlike most of the other Hunters in our list, so she’s a much easier teammate to convince.

Once she’s in your combat formations, you’ll find that Cha Hae-In helps in a number of ways, including but not limited to never letting your enemies get a chance to heal if they’re going to. Because of this ability, you’ll find her to be helpful in combat-heavy dungeon crawls and boss battles where you’ve got minions to fend off, too.

Alicia Blanche

Talking to Alicia Blanche in Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive.

Element

Aqua

Role

Mage

Recruitment Difficulty

Hard

You’ll struggle to find an Aqua user with a better damage output on sheer numbers alone than Alicia Blanche. While she’s a staple on any Aqua team, she’s powerful enough to stand on her own when placed in mixed teams, too.

As a Mage, you’ll need to be a bit more mindful of where she’s standing on the field than with other characters who move around more and participate more in close-ranged fighting, but as long as you know how to keep her safe (her HP is relatively low to begin with and will require updates over time), she’s definitely worth it to recruit.
