If you’re trying to quickly level up a new party member in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the Lucky Egg is one of the best items you can get. What looks like a simple hold item, this handy egg allows the Pokemon you give it to receive a significant amount of extra Exp Points, compared to what it would normally receive.
That’s both whether it’s the active Pokemon in battle or when getting shared Exp as it’s sat in your party. However, along with this rare item only being available at one key location, it has a very heavy unlock requirement as well. So you can add it to your Satchel as soon as you can, here is precisely where you need to go to grab the Lucky Egg in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, along with how to use it.
How To Get The Lucky Egg
In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the only Lucky Egg can be found by completing Side Mission 109 ‘Wondrous Self-Healing Pokemon’, which is started by talking to the Nurse Joy at the Vert Pokemon Center. The Vert Pokemon Center is one of the first you’ll likely have visited in the game, being directly east of Wild Zone 01.
However, this side quest, essential to getting the Lucky Egg, doesn’t become available in Legends: Z-A until Main Mission 38 ‘The Future of Lumiose City’.
This is a fairly late game mission in the game’s campaign, taking you around 25-30 hours to reach it if you’ve taken part in light amounts of exploring, catching Pokemon, and side missions during your playthrough.
After you’ve spoken to Jacinthe and Ivor in front of Hotel Z at the start of Main Mission 38, you’ll be free to travel to the Vert Pokemon Center where the Side Mission 109 is now available.
It’s a fairly simple quest where all you need to do is beat her team of four Level 66-67 Pokémon: Helioisk, Clefable, Roserade, and Avalugg.
To have already reached this point in the game, your team will need to be around this level anyway, so beating Joy should be fairly simple. Still, you should have Pokemon with Ground-, Steel-, and Fire-type attacks in your party to make this battle as quick work as possible.
As this Pokemon Legends: Z-A side quest finishes up, you’ll finally be given the Lucky Egg as a reward, along with 4,500 Poke Dollars, five Full Restores, and two Max Revives.
How To Use The Lucky Egg
Just like in the mainline Pokemon games, you use the Lucky Egg in Legends: Z-A by giving it to the Pokemon you want to level up faster as a hold item. Then, with each battle, that Pokemon will gain ‘extra Exp. Points’, according to its item description.
The exact amount of extra Exp. Points gained hasn’t been confirmed, but appears to be almost double what a Pokemon would gain compared to normal, judging by comparing Raichu (who’s holding the Lucky Egg) to the rest of the party’s gained Exp. in the image below.
While this, unfortunately, is indeed the only Lucky Egg in the entire game, the grind required to reach its unlock is well worth it. That’s especially if you want to speedily level up new party members you get in Legends: Z-A’s post-game, like Wild Zone 20.
If you combine this with the many Exp Candies you find across the game, you’ll be able to raise your Legends: Z-A Pokemon to Level 100 far faster than normal.
