When you get started in Pokemon Pokopia, there’s a ton to do from the get-go. From finding out where all the humans have gone to understanding the basic options at your disposal, there’s a lot to do when you first get started.
Of course, that means there are times when you’ll make silly mistakes when trying to get to grips with the game’s many options. Pokopia doesn’t hold your hand; in fact, it leaves you free to do as you please. Because of this, we’ve all made a few silly mistakes while playing. When getting started in Pokopia, learn from these mistakes everybody makes.
Leaving Pokemon In Their Habitat
When you first start playing, you’ll want to find as many new Pokemon as you can. Several of them share the same habitat, and once they pop up, if you don’t move them out of the habitat, you can’t have another Pokemon spawn in it.
It’s easy to create several habitats at once, have Pokemon pop up, and completely forget to move them out to make room for others. You can also build homes for them and move them in, to make room for the new Pokemon to come to the habitat, if you remember.

Watering Every Inch Of Your Town
Before you learn about the miracle of rain, one thing we all did was try to water everything in the Withered Wastelands. You’ll see all the dry environments, the withered trees and bushes, and dead grass, and feel the need to water it all immediately.
While yes, you absolutely should water what you can to get the ball rolling on creating habitats, there’s way too much space to cover in the Withered Wastelands to try and water every inch all on your own. Follow the story, and the rain will come, doing half the work for you.
Making A House Too Big
We’ve all been there. When you first start building and want to make a new place for your Pokemon friends, you might get a bit carried away. Building a large home to fit all of the furniture when you see its size feels like the natural thing to do.
If a house is too big, it won’t register as a house, meaning no Pokemon can move into it. You’ll eventually learn the parameters of how big a house can actually be, but we’ve all gone a bit overboard with the building, especially in the early game.
Forgetting Fast Travel
Once you start opening up new biomes, you’ll probably find yourself walking back and forth between them quite a lot. We’ve all done the constant running between them, wasting tons of time on travel alone.
Running in the early game doesn’t do much, so we’ve all wasted tons of time running between the unlocked areas. Making a home in each area allows you to fast travel. We all forget to create a quick home to be able to fast travel between biomes instead of running to each one.
Only Taking One Pokemon With You
It’s easy to forget that you can have up to four Pokemon follow you at a single time. When you need to get things done around town, taking everyone who can help with the specific job and getting it all done at once is the most efficient way to be.
Grab all the Pokemon friends necessary for your current objectives, and take them all with you at once. You’ll need to do this for several quests later anyway, so don’t forget to do it for your personal objectives as well.
Losing Your Pokemon Friends
There’s going to be a moment where you just can’t find the Pokemon you need for the task. No matter where you look, they won’t be in their habitat, and you won’t have any idea of where to find them.
You’ll eventually learn that using honey where their habitat is will get them to reappear, so you can actually find them. However, don’t be confused when the Pokemon you’re looking for goes missing. We’ve all spent far too long looking around for a Pokemon that’s not there before learning the honey method.
Placing Crafting Items In Storage Bins
This is a big mistake to make when you’re trying to accomplish story beats in Pokopia. As is the nature of the game, almost every quest will involve you needing to build something. Just when you need to start building, you realize you’ve placed all your building materials in a storage box in a different area.
You’ll have to travel back to get the necessary materials, just to travel to the new area again to start construction. We’ve all placed our construction materials in a storage box and realized, as soon as we needed them, that we don’t have them.
Running Out Of PP
We’ve all been on a Dream Island, collecting everything available and mining resources we don’t have in our town, only to run out of PP and forget to have food.
Whether it’s your powered-up skills or you literally just run out of PP with your regular skills, running out at a crucial moment is a mistake we all make. You’ll learn to carry food with you on your daily excursions after the first time you forget, you’ll be calling Drifloon to take you back and forth.
Destroying Items While Trying To Move Them
You cannot get seeds from trees by chopping them, the same way you can’t move flowers by cutting them. When trying to figure out how to get resources, you’ll find out quickly that you don’t have the resources to do everything you want to yet.
You’ll learn quickly that attempts to cut or move items before you’ve unlocked the resources will just destroy them. Don’t worry, you’ll have the chance to plant more tree seeds later on, but it’s easy to accidentally destroy items when you first start playing.
Missing Out On Security Cameras
We’ve all done the rounds around our town, checking and waiting for a rattling bush to see that there’s a new Pokemon friend hiding behind it. Traversing back and forth between the many habitats we’ve made to try to get new friends into town.
Security cameras are tailored exactly for this purpose. Not using them is wasting time, just as we’ve all done. They’ll allow you to be out of the area while still keeping an eye on the area. They’re motion-activated, so you’ll get an alert when it’s time to welcome a new resident, and you can go about your business in the meantime.
