Achievements and trophies can add plenty of enjoyment to a game as they give you fun little challenges to complete. However, they can also be a lot of work for those who consider themselves achievement or trophy hunters. After all, 100 percent completing a game can be a real challenge in most cases.
What makes them even tougher is the inclusion of missable achievements or trophies. These are ones that you only get limited chances to earn, meaning you can easily miss them on a playthrough. They’re typically annoying, but the following ones are particularly rage-inducing.
Party Pooper
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Deep into Arkham Asylum, fireworks begin going off to indicate the start of a party. This is the party that The Joker has been building for the entire game, and you’re the guest of honor. So, it’s one of The Joker’s classic games that he likes to play with Batman. When you arrive at the party location, you’re met by some thugs who don’t attack you, which is very unusual in Arkham Asylum. They let you into the building, and inside, you will find even more non-hostile thugs. They all have party hats and are giving you a round of applause.
You Had Me At Halo: The Best Puns In Video Game Achievements
These achievements PUNch above their weight class.
Your natural instinct in this situation is likely to be to walk past and avoid an unnecessary fight. If you do that, though, you won’t get the Party Pooper achievement or trophy. This is because you need to defeat all these enemies to get it. If you walk past without doing so, you will lose your chance and have to replay the entire game if you want the achievement or trophy.
Errand Boy
Red Dead Redemption 2
Throughout Red Dead Redemption 2, you’re a part of an outlaw gang. In fact, you’re one of the main and most well-respected members of the group. This is likely why people keep asking you to do stuff, including acquiring items for them. If you fulfill five of their item requests, you get the Errand Boy achievement or trophy.
Now that sounds a lot easier than it actually is. This is because triggering these requests can be tough. They only happen during specific chapters, and you have to be at camp to get them. Also, if you don’t have a guide, you won’t know when they will trigger. You will just have to hope you talk to someone at the right time. Plus, even when you do trigger the requests, they won’t be available to complete forever. If you progress too far into the story, you will lose your chance.
Card Collector
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Gwent is a beloved card game that you can play in The Witcher 3. However, you won’t be very good at the game if you just stick with your starter cards. Therefore, you must keep finding more to build up your deck. The Card Collector achievement and trophy requires you to acquire all of the cards in the base game. You get most of them by buying or winning them from merchants. Yet, you also get many from beating other people you encounter in the game and completing certain quests.
Some of these quests can auto-fail if you progress too far into the story, and several of the Gwent players can become unavailable. There’s also a Gwent tournament at one point that you need to win to gain some cards, but if you’re eliminated from the competition, you can’t retry. Since The Witcher 3 is a very long game, having to replay a lot of it simply to acquire some cards isn’t a great experience.
Oh Look, A Cat!
Judgment
In Judgment, you play as a private detective, meaning you conduct plenty of investigations throughout the game. Typically, when you’re investigating something, you’re put in search mode. This is where the game shifts to first-person for a bit, and you must look around for clues. You can also sometimes find random stray cats in these moments. Finding all of them earns you the Oh Look, a Cat! achievement or trophy.
Most of them are very easy to miss, and you only get a single chance at them. Once a mission is done, you can’t go back to it to look for felines. To make matters worse, the achievement or trophy requires you to find all the cats in a single playthrough. So, if you miss one, your whole attempt at the achievement or trophy is ruined.
The Devil
Cyberpunk 2077
The Devil achievement or trophy in Cyberpunk 2077 revolves around unlocking one of the game’s endings. You can only unlock it if Takemura remains alive. This is what makes it such an easily missable achievement or trophy. Takemura is an antagonist-turned ally who helps you throughout the adventure. In the Search and Destroy quest, the two of you get ambushed by the enemy, and the building you’re in begins to fall apart. You’re separated from your buddy, and the construct in your head with the face of Keanu Reeves tells you Takemura is almost certainly dead. On top of that, the game simply gives the objective of leaving the building.
So, it’s understandable if you assume that you can’t save Takemura. Yet, if you leave without finding him, he dies, and you can no longer earn The Devil achievement or trophy in that playthrough. It’s such an easy mistake to make, as the game seems to be outright telling you that you can’t save Takemura. Yes, an important character like that wouldn’t normally die in those circumstances, but it definitely feels like a situation where he’s going to be captured, and you must save him later. That is not the case, though. He just dies.
Vault-Tec C.E.O.
Fallout 3
The main collectibles in Fallout 3 are Bobbleheads, and the Vault-Tec C.E.O. achievement or trophy tasks you with finding all 20 of them. Since this is an open-world game, you probably think you can gather them all whenever you want.
Unfortunately, though, there are several missable ones. For instance, there are a few bobbleheads in locations you can destroy, making them inaccessible. Also, there is one in the Vault that you start the game in, and if you miss it the first time, then you only get one other chance to acquire it. What makes this so frustrating is the fact that you expect collectibles in open-world games to be accessible the entire time.
World’s Biggest Welch Fan
Star Ocean: The Last Hope
To get the World’s Biggest Welch Fan achievement or trophy, you must craft every possible craftable item in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Since there are 321 of them, it’s a big ask to make them all. It isn’t the actual crafting that is the main issue, though. Finding all the recipes that you need to craft things is the real problem.
There are a bunch of them that you can only get at a specific time or in a specific area that you never return to. Plus, there is a certain party member who leaves during the game, and you must grab their recipes before they go. If you miss out on just one recipe, you must wave goodbye to the World’s Biggest Welch Fan achievement or trophy until you start a new playthrough.
