Upcoming Price Hikes Could Make Your Next Phone Pricier

Upcoming Price Hikes Could Make Your Next Phone Pricier

Rising production costs are forcing major smartphone makers to raise their prices. Consumers are now urged to purchase new phones before the official hikes begin this March. Find out which specific models are impacted here.

We are now realizing the extended toll of the memory crunch caused by soaring AI demand. While companies have previously warned that electronic gadgets will become more expensive in the future, brands like Oppo are set to adjust device prices across the board very soon. This decision affects the popular OnePlus brand. Consequently, consumers are being urged to buy their phones before the anticipated price increases take effect.

Price Increases Begin With Budget Phones

The change was initially announced by Oppo in China. These adjustments will affect the entry-level A series and mid-range K series, respectively. These changes are expected to take effect starting on March 16 in that region.

Although no exact figures were shared, research firm Counter Research predicts that price increases will range between 15% to 25% for most smartphones based on BoM this year. This means mid-range phones currently priced at $250 or higher could become $40 to $100 more expensive. Even more concerning is the belief among experts that older models could also be impacted by these shifts.

While many of these price increases were announced for China, it is assumed that comparable adjustments will be applied to devices sold globally. This is because many of the models and components are manufactured in China. At the same time, the effect of the memory crisis appears to be widespread across many tech sectors.

It is not entirely bad news for consumers. Oppo stated that it is holding current prices for its high-end and flagship lineups. This includes the Reno and Find series as well as their tablet collection.

OnePlus Devices are Getting Pricier

However, customers can expect OnePlus devices to become more expensive as well. Although a specific list is not yet available, there is a chance that the OnePlus 15 (review) and 15R might see price increases in certain countries in the coming months. The same applies to the Nord budget series, especially the upcoming OnePlus 16 and future models.

Oppo and OnePlus are not the only companies planning price hikes. Recent Xiaomi phones including the Xiaomi 17 series (Ultra review) have already become more expensive. Samsung has also increased costs for its Galaxy S26 models in some territories.

Because of this, those who plan on purchasing a new phone should not wait much longer. It is wise to take advantage of current pricing before these increases take effect.
