Todd Howard Knows He’s Re-Released Skyrim So Much It’s Become A Joke

What are your top five favourite Bethesda games? Skyrim. What Elder Scrolls announcement can we look forward to at the next showcase? Skyrim. What game can be played on virtually everything? Doom. But, Skyrim is a close second.

You’ve heard all the jokes over the years, but they are based on truth; Bethesda really does like to re-release Skyrim. In fact, we just got yet another re-release, this time on Nintendo Switch 2. That meant that we got the wave of Skyrim release jokes again, and it’s now clear that even Todd Howard himself is in on it.

Yes, Todd Howard Knows That Skyrim Has A Lot Of Releases

A courier from Skyrim standing around.

This came up in an interview with The Game Business, with Howard chatting about the state of Bethesda’s gaming endeavours as Fallout Season 2 premieres.

“We have three big franchises now, and everybody wants more of it,” Howards says. “It’s [about] picking our battles and making sure each one is special.”

The then touches on things Bethesda has launched recently, and of course, that includes Skyrim. “I think it’s [just released] for the 117th time on Switch 2,” he jokes. “There’s still a huge audience around that game, with mods and creations as well.”

Okay, sure, it is funny that he is in on it as well. But that will hardly stop fans from begging for a scrap of news about The Elder Scrolls 6. The community hasn’t even had crumbs to feed on since the game was announced in 2018. Bethesda has made it clear that it won’t be rushed, which is admirable, and hopefully good for the developers who have to make the game, but it leaves fans wanting more than just another adventure around Skyrim – this time with slightly better graphics on the Switch.

At the very least, Bethesda isn’t trying to get our hopes up that there will be anything to announce soon. Most of the team is working on The Elder Scrolls 6 now, but don’t expect it to make an appearance in any of the upcoming showcases. Remember how hurt you all were when you thought we were getting a new trailer at The Game Awards? Yeah, let’s not get carried away again.
