Weapons are important in Hytale since you spend so much of the game running into hostile mobs, and your fists aren’t very effective in combat. So, if you don’t want to get eaten by a bear every few minutes, you need to make sure you have at least one good weapon in your hotbar.
However, you have to decide which weapon it will be. After all, the game isn’t really short of them. There is a range of different types, from long-range weapons to short-range ones. This is a tier list containing each of them.
Hytale is an early access game, meaning some weapons may be updated and improved in the future.
How The Tiers Work
While there are a lot of individual weapons in the game, most are just upgraded versions of weapons. Therefore, we’re only including the best version of each weapon type. In most cases, this means the Mithril version.
This leaves us with eight weapons, spread across five tiers, ranging from S to D. Here is a breakdown of what each tier means:
|
Tier |
Explanation |
|---|---|
|
S |
The weapons in the S Tier are the best in the game. They excel in most areas, including damage output and speed. Any other additional attributes they have also contribute to their placement in the S Tier. Overall, they’re the weapons that you should be aiming to craft. |
|
A |
To make it into the A Tier, a weapon has to be very effective against most enemies. That said, they aren’t in the S Tier for a reason, so they may have one big weakness that stops them from being completely well-rounded. |
|
B |
The B Tier is for the middle-of-the-road weapons. These are pretty useful, but they do have some negatives. They can get you out of most situations, though. |
|
C |
C Tier weapons are generally uninspiring. Yes, they can be okay in a fight, but you really shouldn’t go out of your way to craft them since there are several better ones in the game to save your resources for. |
|
D |
You generally want to stay away from the D Tier weapons. They aren’t worth wasting your hard-earned resources on because they don’t do enough damage and often have other faults. Craft any of the weapons in the higher tiers instead. |

S Tier Weapons

Mithril Sword |
The Mithril Sword is the best sword in the game. It offers good range, damage, and speed. Plus, as a one-handed weapon, you can use it with a shield, unlike most other weapons in the game. |
There is only one weapon deserving of the S Tier in this game, and that is the Mithril Sword. Being made out of Mithril means it’s more powerful than other swords in the game. And swords, in general, are better than other weapon types because of their balance.
While other weapons have significant weaknesses, swords are good all-rounders. You can be swift and deadly with them. Also, they give you some decent protection because you can use a shield when wielding a sword.
A Tier Weapons

Mithril Daggers |
Like with other Daggers in the game, the Mithril ones allow you to attack at an impressive pace. In fact, they’re the quickest weapon type in the game. The Mithril versions have a bit more punch than the other Daggers. Yet, their damage is still unimpressive compared to other weapon types. |
|
Mithril Mace |
The Mithril Mace is one of the most brutal weapons in the game. It’s a giant hammer that deals significant damage to enemies. It deals so much damage, in fact, that it somewhat makes up for how slow it is to swing. However, its slowness still stops it from being an S Tier weapon. |
The A Tier is filled with two completely different weapons with different strengths. The Daggers are incredibly quick, but don’t deal much damage, while the Mace deals a lot of damage, but isn’t quick.
Both speed and power are important when it comes to weapons in this game, and they’re both good enough at one of those things to be considered A Tier weapons. On top of that, they can both be used to hit multiple enemies at once, which is useful, too.
B Tier Weapons
|
Tier |

B |
Flame Crystal Staff |
The Flame Crystal Staff is a versatile weapon that is effective in both close and long range. And the fireballs that it shoots don’t dip down at all, making this a more accurate ranged weapon than the bows. Unfortunately, you need to consume the hard-to-find Essence of Fire to use the weapon. |
|
Mithril Shortbow |
The Mithril Shortbow deals more damage per hit than any other long-range weapon in the game. Unlike other ranged weapons, though, you have to stop to load an arrow after every shot. |
The game’s B Tier weapons include the two best ranged weapons in the game. Seeing as they’re the best in their category, you could argue that the Flame Crystal Staff and Mithril Shortbow deserve higher than the B Tier.
However, their weaknesses are too big to land in the A Tier. Having to use Essence of Fire to shoot the Flame Crystal Staff is a significant problem since it’s not a resource you find a lot of. Plus, this Staff doesn’t even do an incredibly impressive amount of damage. The Shortbow, on the other hand, has such a poor fire rate due to the fact that you have to load the arrow each time. Also, arrows dip in the air in this game, making it harder to hit accurate shots.
Of course, though, both weapons also have positives. The Staff is the only weapon that is truly deadly in both close-quarters and ranged battles. Plus, the lack of dip on the fire bolts compared to arrows helps with accuracy. Arrow dip may hurt the Shortbow’s overall appeal, but it makes up for it with its incredible power.

Mithril Battleaxe |
The Mithril Battleaxe isn’t hugely different from the Mithril Mace. It, too, is a slow but powerful weapon. In fact, it has one of the best damage outputs of any weapon in the game. Yet, it isn’t as strong as the Mace, making it feel a bit obsolete. |
The only weapon to make it into the C Tier is the Mithril Battleaxe. It’s a tough weapon to judge since it isn’t bad, but it feels a little unnecessary. It doesn’t really do anything that the Mithril Mace doesn’t.
While the Battleaxe is a little faster, it’s still very slow and doesn’t have the damage output of the Mace. Also, it isn’t as good as the Mace at hitting multiple people at once.
D Tier Weapons
|

Reason |

|
D |
Iron Crossbow |
The Crossbow deserves credit for its fire rate, as it fires much more quickly than the Shortbow. This is leveled out by the fact that the reload speed of the Crossbow is really bad, and its damage output isn’t great, either. Another negative is that its range is poor compared to other ranged weapons. |
|
Ice Crystal Staff |
The Ice Crystal Staff has an accurate ranged attack, but it doesn’t do a lot of damage. What also doesn’t do much damage is simply hitting enemies with the end of it, which is the alternate fire mode. |
The D Tier is reserved for the two most underwhelming ranged weapons in the game. The Iron Crossbow is the lesser of two evils, but it isn’t exactly great. Because it uses Iron, it pales in comparison to the Mithril Shortbow in terms of damage; its quicker fire rate doesn’t make up for it.
In Creation Mode, the game says that the Ice Crystal Staff is a work in progress, which is something you can tell when you use it. It doesn’t really do a lot of damage at all, and it doesn’t seem to freeze enemies either. It certainly seems like a weapon that could improve in future updates, but right now, it is D Tier at best.
