HumanitZ finally received its official launch at the beginning of 2026. After years of Early Access and thousands of players surviving in this world, the game received a massive update that changed how many systems work and what you can expect for the future of the game. The upgrade or the infection systems, for example, were revamped.
Whether you come from previous years or you’re a brand-new player, we have gathered some explanations and pieces of advice that will let you have a less tough time with all the zeeks around. Let’s go over our beginner tips and tricks for HumanitZ.
How To Select A Profession
Whenever you start a new game, you’ll be able to select a Profession for your character. These go from Unemployed to Electrical
Engineer, and what you should select depends exclusively on how you want to play. You can check our Professions guide to know more about each of them.
While selecting one will permeate how you play for a good chunk of hours, it’s worth saying that you can unlock a second Profession and even a third one as you play. For the second one, you’ll need to be level 30, and for the third one, 60. Keep in mind that you don’t level up as fast as you did in Early Access, though.

Gear up!
By the way, after your Profession, you need to select an Affinity for your character. Unless you want to make things harder from the get-go for some sadistic reason, we recommend skipping this for your first hours.
Starter Zone, Leave The Rest For Now
Another thing that you need to select before starting your new run is a Spawn Point. This basically decides at which point of the map you’ll spawn, which will drastically alter the following things: amount of resources and loot, buildings nearby, and number of zeeks.
For beginners, simply select the Starter Spawn. It might sound obvious, but there are many options, and it can get a bit confusing. At the same time, if you want to start with a bit of a greater difficulty, you can check our selection of the best Spawn Points.
Get Or Craft A Weapon, ASAP
You can knock out zombies with your bare fists. You’ll knock them down, and then you can hold G and choke them or perform a grab that will kill them in a few seconds. However, this special attack takes time, costs half of your Stamina, and it also leaves you vulnerable to other zombies. So it’s only really viable when fighting one vs one.
This is why it’s really important that you find or craft a weapon as soon as you can. It doesn’t matter if it’s a firearm, a sophisticated knife, or an Improvised Axe that you crafted with two Stones. You need to have a proper weapon to defend yourself, or you want last long. Also, beware that noise is a huge factor and attracts a lot of enemies in this game.
Starting Quests Are Great
As you take your first steps, you’ll notice that you have a quest window on the bottom left side of the screen. These are beginner quests, and they guide you step-by-step with simple tasks that teach you what you can craft and where you can get the resources you need.
It might not look that useful at first, but it’s the type of handholding that can really make a difference in a type of game like this.
If you don’t want these quests and you prefer to play at your own pace, you can disable the quests in the Settings menu.
How The Infection System Works
Another thing that has been reworked in the 1.0 version is how you get infected by zombies. Now, whenever you get damaged by a zeek, your Infection Level will begin to rise. You will see this as a small green icon with a skull next to your life bar.
If a zombie only hits you, it will go up slowly, but if it grabs and bites you, half of the gauge will be filled. Reach 100 percent, and you’re dead.
This is why you need to take your fights against zombies seriously. You have ways of dealing with the infection, either with medicine that heals 50 percent of your infection, or the Infection Inhibitor, which you can craft and reduces your infection gradually.
Unlock As Many Skill Trees As Possible
If you have been playing on Early Access, you’ll notice that the Skill System has changed in 1.0. Now the Skills are locked behind Professions or categories/groups. For the latter, you need to complete certain tasks in-game to be able to see the group’s Skill Tree and start unlocking upgrades.
For example, the Bows Skill Tree asks you to craft one Bow, craft one Arrow, and kill 25 enemies with this weapon.
There are a few of these groups that might take you a few hours to unlock, especially if this is the first time playing the game. But you should make this a priority, so you can make your character much better when it comes to combat, traversal, survivability, constructions, and more.
Learn How To Build Storage Containers
A big aspect of HumanitZ is the management of your inventory. Apart from finding or crafting backpacks to increase what you can carry at all times, you can also craft Storage Containers, which will allow you to save many items in them. The best part? You can build multiple Storage Containers and leave them inside the buildings you want.
To craft one of these, you’ll need seven Wood, one Scrap Metal, and ten Nails.
If You Die Too Much, Don’t Forget About Console Commands
The tips written in this guide until this point are focused on making your life in HumanitZ a bit easier, but still maintaining some degree of challenge. After all, we believe that is the essence of the game: to have an exciting, fair challenge.
However, if you keep failing or getting frustrated about a few things, but you still like most aspects of the game, we might have a solution. Whenever you play alone, you can open the chat and insert a few commands that let you alter your game in big ways. From turning on God Mode and earning millions of experience points in a second, to spawning any object you might need.
Use this to escape rough situations and avoid death, or just to experiment and see everything the game offers. The decision is up to you.
