Surviving the zombie apocalypse isn’t easy, even if you’re not the one risking your life out in the destroyed cities. In Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, you play the role of a soldier who must ensure that all incoming survivors do not show any symptoms of the infection.
Along with ensuring you are terminating the infected hosts, you will also need to manage your base, its resources, and protect it from various zombie attacks that occur throughout the game. Here are the best base upgrades you should spend your hard-earned money on first to ensure a smoother experience.
Best Base Upgrades
You will unlock the ability to upgrade your base after the first couple of days, when you’re introduced to the generator and how to refuel it. From there, you will gain the ability to purchase base upgrades to various facilities, with more upgrades unlocking as you improve your zone’s overall ranking via Research Points.
However, if you’re not used to management games, it can be a bit overwhelming to know what to buy and how to ensure you even have enough money to deal with the ever-increasing number of survivors you take in. Here’s a breakdown of some of the best base upgrades I strongly recommend picking up as soon as you can.
Quarantine Zone: The Last Check – Ask Your Mom Quest Walkthrough
Here is where to find all the graffiti to complete the Ask Your Mom quest in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check.
Generator — Generator 3
The first upgrade you should buy is the Generator 3 upgrade, as this will not only increase the fuel efficiency, but also increase your general power output to the other buildings. Since nearly every single other upgrade relies on using power to function, you should always prioritize improving your generator whenever possible. This should be the first upgrade you buy once it’s available!
Defense Center — Ability Accelerator
An often overlooked aspect of the Quarantine Zone is defending against the hordes of zombies that attack every few days. While it’s fairly easy in the early stages, eventually you’ll be dealing with absolute waves of undead, which can make taking them all out tricky with the base gear you have.
Ability Accelerator speeds up the reload time, making the bigger cannons much easier to use, allowing you to quickly take down the tougher zombie variants that will begin to show up. Later on, I also recommend snagging the Soldiers upgrade, as the armed group of guards at the gate is great for thinning out the smaller, normal-type ghouls.
Tents — All Tent Upgrades
I’m cheating here a little and including Tent 2–5 since they all do the same thing. Increasing the number of survivors you can take in is critical to your success, as it will not only reduce the chances of spreading sickness throughout the camp, but also improve the amount of Research Points and money you’ll make when the evacuation happens. This is one of the first things I always upgrade whenever I increase my overall Zone Level, as you’ll always be taking in new survivors.
Security Tower — Security Tower 1
This is my sleeper pick as one of the best upgrades in the game, as it is largely not that helpful until something goes catastrophically wrong. When picked, the Security Tower 1 will prevent any outside infected from entering this block and will reduce the amount of casualties that happen during an outbreak.
The former is great because it will give you peace of mind that you don’t need to worry about any undead breaking in and attacking your camp, while the latter can seriously save a lot of your survivors if you accidentally let an infected person in. This will happen to everyone eventually, and it can absolutely obliterate the number of people you have around.
Not only will this risk your quota not being met, but it could also severely impact your financial situation. It’s a cheap upgrade that will be an absolute workhorse in the long run. Pick it up ASAP.
Checkpoint — Metal Detector
Early on, this upgrade might seem kinda pointless, but once you unlock the ability to search a person’s body for contraband, this can save you a ton of time. When someone walks in without a backpack, and the alarm goes off, it will instantly let you know that someone has some kind of contraband hidden among their organs. This can ensure you don’t miss anything, improve your inspection score, and save you from losing any money!
Canteen — Hydroponics
The last upgrade I suggest snagging is the Canteen’s Hydroponic upgrade. Picking this will let you passively make 8 meals a day, which in the early game can save you a lot of money in the long run. Given that you have to consistently restock this place to ensure your survivors are happy, automating some of the process is a no-brainer. Plus, this is a pretty cheap upgrade you can snag early on, so I recommend grabbing this after you improve your generator.
While the rest of the upgrades are generally quite good, these are the main ones I would buy as soon as you can. These will ensure you have a good foundation for maintaining your base while minimizing potential hazards or issues you run into.
