Season four of Netflix’s The Witcher is just days away, and fans are not only waiting to see how the show wraps up, but how Liam Hemsworth will portray Geralt after the departure of Henry Cavill. The showrunners have been getting a lot of heat for this, as fans loved Cavill’s performance, and some of this has unfortunately and unfairly spilled onto Hemsworth.
With all that done and dusted, the only thing left to do is see how the final season turns out. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has, on numerous occasions, said that Hemsworth has done a fantastic job of stepping into the role, and now has revealed why the actor was chosen for the part.
Liam Hemsworth Perfectly Suits Geralt’s Character Development In Season Four
“What I thought he brought to that character was this real sort of emotional depth and this vulnerability and the ability to sort of be falling in love, but also be part of this really scopic world,” said Hissrich in an interview with GamesRadar+. Hemsworth’s portrayal doesn’t just mimic what Cavill brought to the role, but builds on it as per the events of the upcoming season.
Everything goes wrong for Geralt at the end of season three. Hissrich explained that he’s at his lowest point and has lost track of Ciri and Yennefer, the two people he cares about the most. He’s not only emotionally scarred but also physically injured, making things that much worse. Hemsworth manages to capture this perfectly.
“So we also knew we wanted to find someone who would be able to bring the gruffness and the sort of action star that we know from Geralt, but to be able to bring this undercurrent of a man who’s lost a lot of things. Liam does such a beautiful job of walking that line of being able to be emotional without being weak; to be vulnerable, without being fully exposed all the time.”
Hemsworth immediately captured this emotional depth, along with the physicality that Geralt is known for, making Hissrich and crew believe that they made the right choice when it came to recasting for the role.
