With only a little more than a month to go, Nintendo and Illumination are starting to drop more teasers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The latest is a 30-second compilation of footage that, for the most part, we’ve seen in other trailers. However, there’s a single shot that doesn’t seem to have appeared anywhere else so far, and quite a few of you are convinced it includes Star Fox’s leg.
Wait, Is That Star Fox’s Leg?
The shot that has caught fans’ attention happens right at the start of the teaser, just two seconds in. Yoshi, Toad, Peach, Mario, and Luigi are shown from behind, watching a ship land in a field. However, there appears to be a sixth person with them who is almost completely out of shot, other than their leg. It’s that leg people think belongs to Star Fox.
Twitter user CamTheCan retweeted the teaser, asking fellow Mario fans if they’re thinking what they’re thinking, and turns out quite a few of them are. GuyDecidue51287 sees it too, questioning whether Illumination is teasing a Nintendo cinematic universe.
Full disclosure, I couldn’t even see what they were referncing at first. I was looking at the plants next to the accused leg. However, after someone noted what appears to be a blaster strapped to said leg, and better acquainting myself with what Fox’s legs look like, I’m starting to see the vision.
Not Everyone Is Convinced
Not everyone is quite as convinced as I am. Other, more logical theories suggest it’s just the back of Luigi’s bike, while others think it might be Bowser Jr. Just to help keep NCU hopes alive, other teasers have suggested the bikes are only used while Mario and Luigi are in the desert, and as for Bowser Jr, why would he be standing alongside his enemies watching a ship land?
Even though the flood of Mario Galaxy toy reveals this week suggests we’ve already been shown all of the new characters being introduced in the next movie, there was one little easter egg in the Gateway Galaxy playset. That easter egg confirms we’re going to be getting characters from outside of the Mushroom Kingdom in the Galaxy Movie.
The playset includes an image of ROB the Robot. Originally a largely forgotten NES accessory until he was repurposed as a Super Smash Bros. character, his appearance in a playset suggests non-Mario Nintendo characters are now on the table. I’d say it would be odd for Fox to be the first to cross that divide, but if ROB’s in, then anyone is fair game.
