The Strongest Rock Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Z-A

The Strongest Rock Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Rock-type Pokemon might not be the most plentiful in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but there are still incredibly strong Rock types to choose from once you progress through the Mega Dimension DLC. Whether you’re limiting yourself to only the best pseudo-legendary Pokemon or you don’t mind dipping into the pool of powerful legendary options, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.

Some of the strongest Rock-type Pokemon require you to jump through some hoops or wait until you’re far into the postgame to access them, but there are also options from the get-go.

Rock Pokemon from the base game are included, but the context of the Mega Dimension DLC Rogue Mega battles is used to determine the most viable options.

Kleavor stands out as one of the best pure offensive Rock-type options available, despite its subpar Special Defense that leaves it vulnerable against many foes. However, if deployed against physical attackers who can’t exploit one of this Pokemon’s three weaknesses, Kleavor can survive long enough to sweep teams, or at least put a dent in the foe’s options.

Mega Dimension’s Ice types offer huge upgrades.

Aside from its weaknesses, Kleavor’s worst quality is its lack of resistances or immunities to offset its lackluster defensive stats, with only two resistances to Normal and Fighting-type moves. However, Fighting is usually a major weakness for Rock-type Pokemon, so turning it into a resistance is good enough to earn Kleavor a place among the best Rock-type options in the Mega Dimension DLC.

Despite having the same Base Stat Total (BST) as Kleavor, Garganacl boasts a much better distribution of its stats, coming at the cost of Special Attack and speed. However, since Garganacl doesn’t really need those stats to function, it gains a massive advantage in its defensive capabilities and even boasts a very solid 100 in Attack to put powerful Rock-type moves like Stone Edge to use.

Unfortunately, as a pure Rock-type, Garganacl is weak against five types: Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. On the flip side, this Pokemon benefits from its five resistances to Normal, Fire, Flying, Ghost, and Poison types, allowing it to shine when placed in situations where it won’t worry about getting hit by super-effective moves.

Garganacl suffers from Z-A’s lack of abilities, or it might have climbed much higher among the best Rock-type Pokemon.

Tyrantrum offers a more specialized Rock-type attacking option thanks to a strong 121 Attack stat that lets this Pokemon one-hit-KO many vulnerable opponents, like Charizard and other Flying types. While you’ll need to keep this Pokemon far away from Special Attackers like Gardevoir, Tyrantrum can easily take out its opponents with its raw strength and solid moveset.

Giga Impact, Head Smash, Earthquake, and Outrage are all powerful moves that capitalize on Tyrantrum’s Attack stat, and provide plenty of firepower to sweep up against weakened foes if you want to use Tyrantrum as a switch-in. Avoid using this Pokemon as your go-to tank, and you won’t notice most of its vulnerabilities.

Aerodactyl’s BST isn’t much to write home about when it comes to its base form, but this Pokemon’s Mega Evolution offers massive improvements. 135 Attack and 150 speed are the highlights of Mega Aerodactyl’s boosted BST, and are a deadly combination for sweeping up foes in a flash.

Both of its defenses get a solid boost to help keep Aerodactyl alive, but you’re best served using this Pokemon against Flying and Bug-type foes, as they typically don’t have an answer to keep this Pokemon in check. Even in dangerous situations, you might be able to unleash two attacks to every one from your foes, which gives Aerodactyl a distinct advantage as a quick-strike KO machine.

Terrakion returns in the Mega Dimension DLC with a solid BST that makes it useful against most competition if you don’t mind working around its set of seven weaknesses. Terrakion’s access to powerful moves like Stone Edge, Close Combat, and Head Smash makes it a viable attacking option for everyday use, though it might not be the best choice for Rogue Mega Battles.

This Pokemon’s moves and solid BST are great, but perhaps the biggest criticism of Terrakion is when it becomes available later in the DLC’s postgame. Unfortunately, by the time you get Terrakion, it’s likely not going to be much more than a trophy, as you’re very likely to have added one of the best Rock-type Pokemon in the DLC to your team by the time you find this Legendary Sword.

Glimmora got a major boost in the Mega Dimension DLC thanks to its new Mega Evolution that boosts its BST to much more impressive levels. 150 Special Attack is the highlight of this Pokemon’s Mega form, but a quadruple weakness to Ground-type attacks limits Glimmora’s usefulness as a generalist.

However, Glimmora shines as a specialist, particularly against Fairy and Fire-type Pokemon, as its moves can hit both types for super-effective damage, while resisting their attacks. It might not be the best Mega Evolution you can find among Rock-type Pokemon, but Glimmora still makes a solid case as one of the best new options you can find while you’re adventuring through Hyperspace Lumiose.

As a pseudo-legendary Pokemon, Tyranitar is already strong in its base form, but this Pokemon’s Mega Evolution brings it to a new level, even though it’s one of the oldest Mega forms at this point. Upon Mega Evolving, Tyranitar’s Attack explodes to 164 while its defenses jump to 150 and 120, respectively, leading to an incredibly well-rounded Pokemon that can decimate foes.

The only major downside to this immensely powerful Pokemon is its quadruple weakness to Fighting-type moves, not to mention its weakness to six other prominent types. Tyranitar’s best defense against its vulnerabilities is the strength of its offense, which can enable it to KO most opponents in a flash.

Diancie is an incredibly strong addition to the best Rock-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and its Mega Evolution only makes it stronger. Diancie boasts 160 in both attacking stats, enabling it to use a wide variety of moves, including a few powerful coverage options.

Most of Diancie’s damage-dealing potential comes from Diamond Storm and Moonblast, the former of which has a chance to raise its Defense by two stages. Diancie’s key vulnerability is a quadruple weakness to Steel-type moves, but luckily, it only fears three other types while boasting five resistances and a complete immunity to Dragon-type attacks.

The main character stands next to a Staraptor in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
